    Dissapearing fish?

Does the tank have an internal filter (like behind the back plane or a media compartment). or a place that he may have gotten that you would never expect?

    Glass Anemone/aiptasia ID

I agree, the peppermints seem to really go only after the smaller ones. Of course that is really hit or miss. I have had them eat some and others leave them be. I use the pickeling lime and it works great. http://nanoreefing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=779

    Green Stalks of ??????

It's a caterpillar algae. Sorry I can't remember the scientific name, but James probably has it right. It's an invasive algae that is hard to get rid of. There are no know predators of it since the green part is very distasteful to fish and inverts. The best way to keep it in check (at least...

little white hard barnical/calcium deposits all over my back glass

Turing off the lights will lower the biological activity in the tank (reducing the pH), but this is a gradual reduction and shouldn't be an issue. You will also need to possibly reduce the feeding or what you are feeding as well. I feed every other day and sometimes skip an extra day and have...

Suggestions for a clean up crew

I like nassarius, cerith and margarita snails. Turbos knock stuff over, Astreas need to be uprighted (still good cleaners). Srimp, definitely sexy, cleaners. Crabs, I tend to stay away from hermits (a personal preference), the above suggestions are great. Keep in mind, lots of crabs are...

    how much sand

If you are using crushed coral and sand, the CC will end up on the top and will need to be cleaned otherwise it starts looking really bad. I had the CC/sand in my 1st tank and it lasted about 6 months until I decided to get the CC out.

    Artificial Decorations? Yes? No?

$100 is way too high for "dead" coral. Are you sure it's isn't a coral frag?

silly question about algae on glass

I agree, sounds like diatoms, if they are powdery and your tank is new, perfectly natural. Water numbers would help as well.

    Canister Media Advice

You can simply use a media for phosphate such at Phosban (the only one I have used) and put it in a mesh bag, in your filter. Do you have excess phosphates in your water? If you do there are much more easier ways to control it. As for other media, I like Purigen (you can ditch the carbon for...

    Sexy Shrimp

Sexy shrimp seem to be hit or miss with eating corals. My friend has a bunch of them with corals and 2 years later they haven't messed with his corals....Mileage may vary!

    Pistol shrimp help?!

I agree, he hill be fine. The pop you hear is when someone ventures too close to his burrow...it's a warning "shot"...

    Clean up crew question?

I've never seen ceriths stir the sand bed. Depending on the age of the tank (newer, use less), 10-20 nassarius snails (sand stirrers), 10-20 ceriths, 15 or so margaritas, 1 fighting conch. Skip the hermits...maybe a few if you like (not my personal favorite). Brittle star is cool (I can't...

Peppermint shrimp tried to eat starfish??

Maybe he was checking out the new addition. Unfortunately, sand sifting stars need a rather large and very mature tank. They tend to exhaust their food supply rather quickly and end up starving.

    A couple of questions...

I agree with Kurt, the gel based cubes don't melt. They pretty much feed the bottom dwellers in my tank (when I rarely buy the gel cubes). You could mash them or try to cut them into tiny pieces.
