Cool. So what i'm looking at right now is a canister filter, glass hood, light fixture, larger heater & bulbs. Will see what all I can get used, cut down on my costs. I'll look into the fluorish as an option. sherry, wouldn't a filter rated for up to 45gal be wayyy to much for a 10gal?

The shrimp have made short work of the gunk & seem to be thriving. I'm not even going to chance it with a snail from the pet store. I can see couple of barely noticable hairs of algae on my tufa rock, so after the plants are clean i'd be afraid it might turn on my plants.

I have a whisper 10i currently running on my fishless 5gal & my heavily planted 10gal. Haven't turned the 10gal one down, but it's so heavily planted it's cut down the current & should satisfy my bettas. Turned down it would do well on a 5gal.

Sorry you were disappointed :( I got my first ever live plant package last Tuesday & it was from aquariumplants.com. They came on time & were in awesome shape. But, they didn't have any room to move at all as I had ordered around 40.
