10 gallon Betta community- first tank

I keep my Betta solo.I have heard they can work in a community tank but I don't think its wise for a newbie to do. Also, I would not put oto's in a 10 gallon. I was advised against doing that by multiple people.

    Guppies muching on anubias?

I'm currently into week 2 of a fish in cycle with 2 guppies. I added an anubias the other day and today I noticed they've been snacking on it. Is this normal? Is it toxic to them? I'm feeding them a pinch twice a day. They cant be starving. Ive been doing daily water changes to keep ammonia down.
