I have two Kenyi that are quite young (as seen in the bottom right of the first picture) And the other two are probably either Pseudotropheus socolofi, Pseudotropheus elongatus, or a hybrid of the two.

Here's my 29 gallon, this will pretty much be a grow out tank but I'll always keep a few little cichlids in here as placeholders for some nice viewing in the bedroom. :) The first picture is from today when I added a bunch of rock and then second is to show you one of the more complex spots...

Some Freshwater people live and die by one inch per gallon. Truth be told there's no formula that will work. But I've often heard saltwater is 2 gallons to every inch of fish.

I do like the idea of having two cichlid tanks ;) We'll have a 29 and a 55. The 55 will be the main spot for the breeding. Maybe the 29 can just have the good looking ones of the type not selected to breed. ;)

Sounds like a very cool setup! What specific kind of gourami and angelfish do you have?

As far as the gouramis I've ever had, they've often been the nicest and calmest in my tank. Their beauty creates a soothing effect as they calmly glide through the water. I'm not sure I would add 1 different kind of gourami (just in case), but adding 2 shouldn't be a problem.

The cost would be a pretty big setback, as well as cleaning the very front of it. As long as you have the space on the bottom why would the sloped front help? I would probably rather have a bow front or hex to get the pleasing design for a small area. Would one of those little 5 or 6 gallons...

I posted this in the regional forum hoping for LFS suggestions, but thought I could use online as a fallback. If nothing else I'll get non-pairs or breeding sets at a local store.

hm... Discus were probably the last on my list. Haha. I'd be willing to work a but harder for angelfish or something I'd prefer Malawi or even south American.

If I do order from online this may be the site to go with. Pretty good DOA protection and they sell pairs at what seem to be reasonable prices. I want good looking fish but being able to actually sell them for a somewhat decent amount (not giving them away) would help fuel my hobby. Any...

I'm looking to start breeding cichlids and I want a store that will either be able to sell me a pair or in the very least know the difference between males and females so I can walk out of the store with 1 male and 2 or 3 females of the same type. Or am I going to have to order from online...

What would you guys as far as mixing peacocks and apistos in a tank? I realize these are africans mixed with americans, but has anyone done it with success? If that's a long shot we might try doing apistos in one tank and peacocks in another.

So peacocks spawn much less than say apistos or mbunas?

I wish someone would just give me a tank! I'm not sure what to suggest as far as putting into it but best of luck with the new tanks!
