    Are these bad?

I have these little white worms in my nano tank and even smaller white specks that zoom around (one is slightly in focus towards the center of the picture)... Water is really cloudy since I did a gravel vacuum and these guys went on a frenzy... I only have nerite snails, ghost and whisker...

Is this Scarring or something else?

I don't think it's velvet, it doesn't appear to have the "Powdered sugar look".. and the spots are in areas where the ich spots once were. There are only a few spots (Mostly 5 or less but one appears to have up to 10) per fish and the spots are much smaller than the ich spots were. All of...

Is this Scarring or something else?

Hey fish tank people. I had a bad case of ick in my 40 gallon planted tank. (ended up loosing about 60% of my stocking as a result of infections caused by lowered immune systems) I tried treating with Marineland Ich remedy (Recommended by my LFS) but I didn't like how it was staining the...

    Aquascaping tools/CO2

Hey all! just wondering what is a good/quality set of aquascaping tools that are also relatively cheap <$100. Also Should I be running CO2? I have a 40 gallon breeder that has 3 amazon swords, 2 cardinal plants, 3 dwarf sag, and a crypt wendtii. The plants are on islands and are not fully grown...

    Pet store and Ich?

Hey all, Just found out that the last plant I added contained Ich and it infected my whole tank... I was in a rush so I just threw it in my tank, i.e. never did a bleach dip, so it wouldn't die in the bag (Don't really know what I was thinking there) and left for the weekend. Came back today and...

    Just a few questions!

I didn't have a problem. I put it deep in my substrate so I never saw it again. No issues there! If the filter is clean (not full of old dry caked on algae) it should do just fine. As I stated earlier DO NOT use ammonia with additives. ACE Hardwares version works great. I'm not sure what you...

    Just a few questions!

I cycled a tank buy stealing a frozen shrimp from the refrigerator and hiding it under the gravel. It decomposed and started off the cycle. You said that you have a 6 gal? if that tank is already established the easiest thing you can do is put your new 10 gal filter on it and then bump up your...

    Ammoniac 9% solution

The only one I've found that works is at Ace Hardware. Hardware stores may carry ammonia but make sure it doesn't have surfactants in it. Ammonia solutions don't always have ingredients list so an easy way to tell is to shake it. If it produces foam/bubbles/ anything it is not acceptable for...

    Pregnant Bloodfin Tetra getting attacked?

So it turns out that All of the bloodfins received nipped fins... and They weren't doing it to each other. The nipped fins came directly from Whisker shrimp... I went to Petco looking for some shrimp and the "aquarium specialist" directed me to these shrimp for my community tank. After a quick...

    Pregnant Bloodfin Tetra getting attacked?

Hey all. I recently got a bloodfin tetra that rounded out my community tank, so I have 6 bloodfins, 6 cobra guppies, 6 rummy nose, etc. etc. So my fish should all feel safe and secure, it is moderately planted so they should feel safe and secure... however this last bloodfin that I added appears...

    Are my plants dying off?

Theres no ammonia or nitrites present in the tank. my water parameters seem fine except for a relative lack of nitrate. Ammonia:0 nitrite:0 Nitrate:0-5 pH: 7.6 kH:3 This tank has been up and running for a month and a half and I began adding fish 3 weeks ago. I added the plants 2 weeks ago...

    Are my plants dying off?

I do have a planted tank that's fishes cycling and producing a great nitrate load would it be a bad idea if I were to do water changes between tanks to bump up the nitrate load somewhat usefully over time? It might risk adding a little nitrite in the process too..

    Are my plants dying off?

I use the generic flourish. I was also using Purigen to clear tannins but I took that out. Since then I've lost 4 fish My tank does not produce excess nitrates it seems. After cycling and doing a 90% water change I have almost no nitrates. I added a good bio load and fed well too. yet after 1.5...

    Are my plants dying off?

Hey! My 40 g breeder seems to be losing plants! My plants are continuing to melt despite a finished cycle...I'm also dosing with sachems fertilizer. Is this normal with amazon sword and crypts wendtii? I've never kept these plants before but I have kept other varieties.

Day 7 of Cycling--already cycled or just a fluke?

Is this a planted aquarium? Your nitrates should be going up quite dramatically if not.

    Feeding issues

So I removed the danios. I have yet to add any more fish so it's currently 5 emerald dwarf rasboras, 3 cardinal tetras, and 3 rummy nose. Should I work on building up the schools of the tetras before adding in the corys? also how many corys would be good to add a t a time? I've never kept these...

    Peppered cory not very active

Another thing, if you aren't feeding them the right food they may not be active due to lack of energy. make sure to have sinking wafers or something similar (algae wafers are fine too). Just a thought.

    Tank Isn't Cycling

If you were using "seeded" filters from another tank that bacteria is long dead. If you're really trying to get the cycle going, crank up the temp on the tank if you have a heater to mid 80s. and get yourself some microbe lift special blend and night out. use them together and you're tank will...

    Can't Control This Aggressive Algae!

Apart from my earlier comment about the flying foxes, you can also try adding plants and fertilizers to help soak up the excess of whatever else is in the tank. if it is a silicate imbalance likely coming from water changes then the only thing you can do to mitigate against that is to have live...

Biggest fish for 40 gallon freshwater tank?

What are you running for a filter and what other fish are you trying to house in your community tank? A roselike shark gets to be about 4-5" and they are quite nice looking fish IMO. It is in the barb family so they can nip at long fish fins like on the long tailed zebra danio. but not all do...
