    NitraZorb

Right now you have a nitrate count that is not good for your fish. Tonight, do a 50% change and again tomorrow do another. Then do smaller changes each day til you get your nitrates where they are safe. Keep testing and you will soon see how often you need to do a change. Nitrates come from...

    NitraZorb

Do a 50% wc and the nitrates will cut in half. Do it again and you are down to 20 ppm nitrates. Smaller wc will finish off your problems with nitrates.

    Blood worms

Got it thanks. I didn’t like the mess in the tank of presoaking blood worms and my fish weren’t impressed either but with the dry freeze dried blood worms, it is like a shark attack with no mess at all. :fish1::thanks:

    Blood worms

I didn’t want to highjack the Ram egg thread but Tom started talking about the benefit of using frozen blood worms to help with egg viability in breeding GBR. I have been using freeze dried ever since I read freeze dried had all the value of fresh live blood worms. Am I wrong? Are frozen better...

    Nitrogen Cycle Help

I'd say you are in the middle of a cycle. Ammonia is converting to nitrites some nitrites are converting to nitrates but you aren't done until ammonia and nitrites are 0 a day after you feed ammonia. Your nitrates won't come down in a cycle without a water change but you don't need that yet. :fish1:

    Nitrogen Cycle Help

Remember, this is just my understanding of the whole cycle but having higher nitrates is a good sign that the nitrites are being converted. The hardest part of the cycle is waiting for the nitrite conversions. How is your ammonia and nitrite test results? I would want to know their results to be...

Which is the best kit to test GH?

It is my understanding that with the API kit, if you put one drop in and you don't get a blue color, you are at your zero (unreadable). If your first drop gives you a blue, add one drop at a time, shake with each drop, until you get a yellow. The number of drops that it takes to get to yellow...

    DIY hood

The "handles" will hang on quite a while, I never had one fail. You will probably find them in a 10 or more pack so what if one comes loose after some use, put another one on. :fish1:

    DIY hood

Tank Top While the light diffuser will keep jumpers in the tank, it won't keep heat in. Your heater will have to work longer and harder. Plastic (plexiglas) cut at Lowell's looks like a solution but will warp with warn tank temperatures. Been there done that. Glass cut to size, IMO, is the...

Pesky persistent ammonium at 0.25 ppm

Don't quit testing your water, when you cleaned your mechanical filter you probably cleaned out a bunch of beneficial bacteria.

    Quality German Blue Rams

Bandit,, Just for your info, your Rams spawned exactly 2 weeks to the day they arrived here. I had 4 spawn areas set up for them but, of course, they spawned away from those areas in a gravel depression. Very interesting to watch this whole procedure. Don’t know if I can hatch any eggs or raise...
