$1 per Gallon sale at Petco

Yeah, back in January. I was surprised to hear another one was coming up, I thought maybe the tags were left over.

$1 per Gallon sale at Petco

Last week my local Petco said they are having a $1 per gallon sale on aquariums, I think they said starting March 18th. I believe it is a nationwide event.

Easy schooling fish for a 20 gallon long

Obviously bigger would be better, but a 20G Long will be fine. A 20G High, not so much, as they are a mid-range fish that likes to swim back and forth more than up and down.

Easy schooling fish for a 20 gallon long

Schooling, or shoaling? Tiger barbs are a good shoaling fish, and a 20 gallon long would be ideal for about 10 of them with your 6 corys. I wouldn't get less than 5 TBarbs though.

My Overhead Sump / Pothos Filter

Yup, that's what I based it off of, with a couple changes.

My Overhead Sump / Pothos Filter

Yup, it has a guard on it. I was thinking of running it near the top and using it as a surface skimmer.

My Overhead Sump / Pothos Filter

I have a Marineland 550 powerhead pumping up about 24" through 1/2" reinforced vinyl hose. The hose is connected to a homemade inflow bulkhead created from parts in the Lowes plumbing section. The bulkhead is located near the top of a 24" plastic windowbox planter, the kind with no drainholes in...

    Ammonia for cycling?

The only ammonia other than Dr Tims that I would trust is from Ace Hardware. It should say Janitor Strength on the bottle, and I believe it is 10% ammonia, 90% water.

Will brass hose fitting react with my aquarium water?

If you are concerned with the brass, you can always pickle it by soaking the brass in a solution of 2/3 Hydrogen Peroxide and 1/3 water for 10 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with hot tap water, and you are good to go. I am also a home brewer, and have had to pickle brass for fittings that come...

    White Spots On Driftwood

Last night I noticed about 5 small white spots about the size of sesame seeds that appeared on a piece of driftwood I have had in my tank for a couple months now. Today, I have 17 of those spots. See pic below. Tank is a fresh water 54 gallon corner unit stocked with 19 tiger barbs, 5 panda...

    aquarium safe coating

That being said, I did find this letter from Krylon, addressing the issue of using their paint in aquariums. Probably just something to cover their *** since this isn't something they test for. Others swear by the stuff and have had no problems, if cured properly. ==============================...

    aquarium safe coating

I've heard good things about using Krylon from "pros" on Youtube. I believe the key to it being fish safe is let whatever you paint dry completely before putting it in the tank, like at least 24 hours.

    Aqua Clear impellers interchangeable?

Correct size impellers are cheap enough online. For the proper performance, I'd recommend getting the proper impeller. This is probably what he is talking about: InTank AquaClear 70 Media Basket It forces the water to go through the sponge and down, then up through your media.

    My Otos keep dying

Started with fish in my tank at the beginning of October. I had 6 Otocinclus. I lost one in the first couple weeks. In the past 2 weeks, I have pulled out 4 more bodies, and have no idea as to where the last Oto is. I keep them with panda corydoras and tiger barbs, and I have never seen the...

Pesky persistent ammonium at 0.25 ppm

Good to know about your levels. Just something to consider, your tetras and corys prefer larger groups of their own kind. You may want to consider having 5 Black Skirt Tetras, and 4 or 5 Corydoras, not sure what type you have. The bad news is that in a 10 gallon tank, this will probably be...

    My panda cories

I have 5 of them in my tank, although I rarely can find all 5 at once. They are fun to watch, and my tiger barbs don't bother them at all.
