I had turned down the flow to the filter considerably as It had seemed to be too strong and be pushing the fish around a bit. After turning it back up my nitrites remained at .25 instead of spiking to .50-1 as it has the last week or so. I will check it in the morning and if it remains...
Okay I will do that. Its a 20 gallon (not long) with three guppies two female one male (the female pictured above passed away last night :() three neon tetras, a bristlenosed pleco and a small blue dream shrimp. I also have about 35 guppy fry in a fry cage in the tank.
I didn't squeeze it out inside the tank. The tank was cycled before I added the fish (ammonia, nitrite at 0 Nitrate at around 10 for a good week). It is a new tank however, being only 2 months old at this point. I have not used any cleaner inside the tank and I vacuum the bottom twice a day when...
As for the plants I have java moss and java fern attached to wood in the tank and no soil whatsoever in it. It is a bare bottom tank. I recently squeezed out my uptake sponge but I didn't touch the sponge inside the filter. I am not using store bought cartridges I'm just using sponges to give...
Umm in my first comment I spoke about how I have been fighting with high nitrites for a week and a half now. I'm testing the water and doing 50-75% water changes daily.. its usually around .5-1 which is way too high. Also as I said above, I tried not feeding for a day after a water change and...
This female guppy just today started acting listless the others are all beating up on her.. after looking at her I wonder if she's starting to get ick (see pic) I have been battling a high nitrite spike in the tank for a week and a half now (previously made a post on this). I do 50-75% water...
No I do not use anything for cleaning the inside I've used windex on the outside. As for the chemicals outside of the air pump it is wedged between the tank and my open drawer that holds all of my bath and body works scents.. so yes lots of chemicals near it..I didn't even consider that
I have a sponge in the filter and on the uptake I do not replace it to try to keep all those beneficial bacteria but yes I did just clean the filter out to try to make sure there wasn't a dead fish or rotten food in there and could have killed off the bacteria. I'll cut back on the food and keep...
Oh and I have the plants rooted to wood. Java fern is best not in substrate actually and the moss could even free float. Easy easy plants tbh. I did clean out the filter and no nothing and when I did the 100% water change I looked for dead fish and couldn't find any. Maybe I'm feeding the babies...
I am using API master test kit and I have tested my water as a control already and no no nitrites. My nitrates had consistently been around 5-10 is that too low to be cycled? I have been using a API tap water conditioner but I'll pick up some prime. Ugh I feel like such a bad person.. I thought...
Hey guys I need help, I have a tank newly established about two months old 20 gallon. I had thought it was fully cycled a month ago when ammonia 0 and nitrite 0 were at zero for several days. I had used old media from another tank of mine to try to speed up the cycling as well. I have 4 guppies...
I recently had an incident where 2 of my guppies died leaving one poor female alone with two small bristlenose plecos. Don't worry I found out what was wrong and fixed it.
Needless to say, I should get her some guppy friends and I am planning on it but I'll be honest I don't know how many is...
Thanks! She's fine! My mom is actually a vet tech and I asked her and she said in most cases if its just diarrhea your fine. If more things start to happen like vomitting and lethargy (as you mentioned) then you should worry. My dog is fine this morning. Maybe she'll learn not to eat stuff that...
I was cleaning my fish tank and my dog (5 month old German Shepherd mix) took a snap at one of my ferns as I was taking the piece of wood out. She got some of it and now has diarrhea. I couldn't find anything about aquarium plants and toxicity to dogs online probably because they don't mix often...
Ohhh that's a good point! I was thinking my filter is a bit strong for him and that I would need to make adjustments to it here soon to fix it.. he does tend to get pushed around by the flow of the water a bit.
the heat on the otherside of the tank is 79 so only a degree of difference and I have a piece of driftwood with java fern, and two plastic hides for my pleco. Its just him and the pleco neither of them seem to even notice eachother.
