    White Tree...

yea...sorry about the bad picture, but its that thing on the right. Its sort of coming out of a tube, but the tube is bigger than the width of the "tree." My best description is like tree branches, the bigger ones branch into smaller ones, they look pretty rigid, don't seem to sway in the...

    White Tree...

This came on a rock with mushrooms from our LFS... It looks like a little white tree growing out of the live rock. Sorry its not a great picture, but its small and I don't have the best camera. Thanks.

    Plants out of control

My tank is only a 20 gallon (see my info), so I think a tang is unfortunately out of the question. I transferred some of this plant to my refugium, and it seems that its taken down there pretty well. In the mean time, I guess I'll keep ripping...

    Plants out of control

The LR I got for my tank a long time ago had some kind of plant growing on it (the leaves are serrated, like little saws, and it kind of looks like an ivy). I had no problem with it, as it looked nice, and was only on a couple of my rocks. Now however, the plant has taken over most of my...

blenny suitable for a 10 gal?

I've got a green clown goby in my tank, and he's great. It took a long time for him to like being out in the open, but now he likes to sit in my mushrooms and watch my other fish chase each other. I think he's the smart one...

Purple firefish going on 3rd week of hiding.

I was just facing a similar problem in my 20 gallon. We had a red firefish that got along with our percula really well, but one day she decided to find the only small opening in the covering of our tank and hop out. Saddened, we decided to get another one, and found a really good looking big...

    Pump GPH

My pump in my sump just died on me, and I'm wondering if the one I had was either too cheap, or wasn't powerful enough for the job I had it doing. I'm using an external overflowbox with a 1" drain into my sump. My tank it 20 gallons, and the return line is approx. 5'. By my calculations I...

    anemone in my 6 gallon

Curly-Cues get HUGE if you give them space, so I wouldn't recommend that. Also, if you have other livestock in the 6 gallon already, you might want to find something else besides an anemone. If anenomes die they can easily cause a tank to crash, especially if its a little one like yours. Just...

HOB overflow Box Vs. Internal overflow box

i put a HOB overflow on my 20 gallon tank awhile ago and its working out great. i ordered the overflow from aquacrylics.com, got a good price, very well shipped, good product. i admit its a little big for my 20 gallon tank, but its certainly not interfering with my setup by any means. the...

Moving and Adding to the Sand Bed

I will be moving my tank across my city in about a month, and have read quite a few of the moving posts on this forum, so I feel pretty confident with the procedure. However, I think that this might be a good time to add to my sand bed. My current sand bed is only about 2 inches deep, and I've...

Best fish for a 10 gal nano

I have a percula, a fire fish, and a greenclown goby in my 20 gallon reef. The goby still hides a lot (he's only been in there for about 3 weeks), but the firefish and perc are good friends now. The firefish used to hide in a cave all the time because the perc. liked to pick on him, but now...

    DIY Sump flow control question

I've just built a 10 gallon sump system w/ refugium for my 20 gallon reef tank. I've got a hang on overflow box that drains into a skimmer chamber w/ live rock, then through 3 bubble trap baffles, then into the pump chamber. The return line is "T'd" too put some water into the refugium, and...

    20 Gallon Nano-Reef/ need advice

I also have a 20 gallon nano reef, its about 6 months old right now. I'd recommend a powerhead especially if you're planning on ever having coral, but they're also just a good thing to have to keep water flowing in your tank. There's lots of fun fish you can put in a 20 gallon reef. I have a...

Just Getting Started and Reading Like Crazy. But, need Advic

If you check the DIY section, you'll find lots of ways to show you how to make a cheap sump. I just built a 10 gallon sump w/ refugium for my 20 gallon reef, and it works great. Only cost me about $40, compared to $200+ for a pre built one. Also, if you're buying a tank that's not...

    finishing touches on 20 long

Your reef sounds exactly like mine. its a 20 gallon, with 30 pounds LR, a perc, a firefish, a cleaner shrimp, a turbo snail, and a bunch of hermit crabs. i just today bought a green clown goby (acclimating as i type), and i think he's going to be a great addition to the reef. how's the...

hippo tang in a 20 gal.

i have a 20 gallon reef tank, and right now i have a percula clown, a firefish, a cleaner shrimp, and a bunch of hermit crabs. everyone seems very happy in there, although the perc likes to pick on the firefish. i like my 20 gallon reef. i do wish i could keep more stuff in there, but if...

cool, i'll just keep up with those PWCs then. my parameters so far seem to be pretty ok, so i'm hoping the mushroom comes around eventually. amm - 0 nitrate - 0 pH 8.2 calcium - 480 sp. grav. - 1.025

Long time SW tank, 1st time reef tank

You also might want to do some research on owning an anemone before you consider buying one. They do best in well established reef tanks, and even then it can be iffy as to whether they will thrive or not. Just my opinion.

    iodine levels

I am the new owner of some mushroom corals and torch coral, and my LFS told me that I should be adding iodine to my water to help them. I've been adding purple up to my water since my tank finished cycling 4 monthes ago, and its kept the calcium levels up around 480 and allegedly it adds iodine...
