    Goldfish death

The others remained well and are still the picture of health. I have no idea what took Tank but it was bad. It's funny how much you can miss a fish.

    Goldfish death

About 7 weeks I think? Maybe 8? He was the picture of health up until he wasn't. Active, always begging for food, constantly trying to get the girls to spawn... Lol.

    Goldfish death

The substrate is super fine sand and the rocks in the tank are all a couple inches across. I don't think it was a water quality thing because I've been testing often both before they moved to this tank, and since. And I moved the old filters over to the new tank to get the cycle going. His...

    Goldfish death

I have a 75 gallon tank that had 4 fancy Goldfish. The water parameters before I did a 60% water change last night were ammonia 0/0.25, nitrite 0, nitrate 5, temperature 68°, and pH 8.4. Two days ago I noticed a little fluffy looking fungus on one of the ranchu's wen. It was kind of trailing...

    Upgrade finally happened!

That's awesome! They're so pretty, even three comets. I love them all. This little dude arrived this afternoon and it's in the 36g for the next two weeks, when he'll join the others in the 75g once I know he's healthy. I'm calling him or her Ziggy. When I unpacked the little guy, he was...

    Upgrade finally happened!

Yeah. I guess they had that tank listed in the FB marketplace for months but it never came up in my searches before that. Either way, I'm super glad I have it and my goldies now have the tank they deserve!

    Upgrade finally happened!

Yeah I couldn't find anything nearby on CL but this was on the Facebook marketplace. She was asking $265 and I was like well... I can give you this instead. Initially I had pulled the trigger on a 75 with stand from PetSmart but then had buyer's remorse and cancelled it before I even picked it...

    Upgrade finally happened!

Several weeks ago, I lost my mind and ordered not 2, but 3 fancy goldfish for my 36g Bowfront. Well, last Friday I made a deal and picked up a 75g with stand and lids for $180. The best part is it was only 15 minutes away! I finished setting up and got lights on it this afternoon, and finally...

Lol aww. Glad I asked first!

    Blood parrots

At some point I will have an empty 36g. I'm trying to decide between a second community tank, or these guys. Would this be suitable for a blood parrot? How large do they get? Can I house more than one together? I've had cichlids in the past but it's been a long time and I probably wasn't doing...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I bought a 75 gallon for my goldfish... Lol. They're currently in a 36 bowfront that I just bought a month ago. Accessories and equipment will arrive over the next few weeks and since they're not in immediate need of an upgrade, I can take my time with getting the new tank set up and cycled...

    Hello - New Aquarium!

Welcome! Re: plecos- I've heard they can suck the slime coat off of a goldfish, injuring them. I might be wrong about that though so someone please correct me if I am. Also, they get way too big for a tank that size. Bristlenose "plecos" which are only colloquially called plecos, stay much...

    Hello (again)

Welp.... My mom is going to shoot me. Not even a month ago I set up a 36g bowfront as my first goldfish tank, which the first thing I did when stocking it was buy one too many goldfish (3 fancies)... they were too pretty and an extra one found it's way into my cart. I clearly have no self...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Yes it is! I love seeing his whiskers develop. Today I set up the new filter, spent 20 minutes with an emery board smoothing sharp edges on some of the new tank's decor, put in 8 Marino balls, and planted a couple little bunches of some sort of grassy stuff. My goldfish should ship out...

    Hello (again)

Agreed. I hope to never have that happen again, but that's unlikely.

    Hello (again)

42 hours. The outside temps never got above 32°, and we were running out of firewood. It was a miserable 2 days for everyone. We could see our breath in the house.

    Hello (again)

Yeah. My bristlenose is my favorite fish and I came so close to losing him. He was on his back on the bottom of the tank, barely breathing, when the power came back on. I immediately picked him up and put him in the floating Betta log at the top, and over the next hour replaced about 6 gallons...

    Hello (again)

They are the cutest! I was so excited to see the two that have survived when they no longer bite sized. Freaking adorable! I actually just added the platys in the last couple months. On the 26th of December we had a snow storm, lost power and water for 42 hours and the tank temp dropped down...

    Hello (again)

Hmmm... I'll admit pompoms weren't even on my radar. I had thought about using my 29 for a pair of fancies but then I got a couple platys and I freaking love them! I've got two fry that are about a third of an inch and too big to be swallowed by the adult fish, but plenty of other fry have not...

    Hello (again)

I'm getting a ranchu and a pearlscale. I chose the smallest of the fancies because I know a 36 is barely large enough when they reach full size. The orandas are absolutely gorgeous but they get huge!

    Mystery snails and salinity

Very little. The supplier the fish are coming from recommends 0.15% - 0.2%. I'll probably remove them just to be sure.

    Hello (again)

I'm technically not new, but I joined about 2 years ago, was briefly active, and then disappeared. At that time I had multiple tiny tanks, a couple bettas, some mystery snails. Maybe a couple shrimp. Two years later and I have a heavily planted community tank which houses platys, zebra danios...

    Mystery snails and salinity

I did a search and a really old thread came up that wasn't super conclusive. Can mystery snails handle low salinity water? I'm planning to order the fish for my new tank online and they recommend adding a little aquarium salt to the water off the tank they'll be going into. I have no problems...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Today I moved a filter from my cycled planted community tank into my new tank. The new tank will hold a pair of fancy goldfish (it's a 36g Bowfront) but when they're a bit bigger I'm planning to upgrade. My mom flat out asked why I didn't buy the biggest tank the store had... Lol. At the...

    Shrimp & snail tank questions

No, she's white as fresh snow. The lighting has a blue tinge to it making her look blue. The first day she hid a lot but today they're both out swimming around exploring. :)
