    Shredded betta fins

I have no problem telling that the Betta does not have fin rot. Most Bettas are sold as juveniles. The breeders have gone nuts in trying to develop poor Bettas with tails and find that make practically impossible for the poor fish to swim. There are some Bettas that lose white coloring once the...

    Help! Yoyo loach stuck

I assume it was the breaking of the plastic trick I suggested. A small injury is usually easy in a fish to heal. The only problem that occurs ( usually) is fungal that would grow on any dead tissue around the area, but it's not a high probable condition. I'm glad you were successful in rescuing...

    Help! Yoyo loach stuck

I had just assumed there would be a part away from the fish's body you could break 1st and then break away small pieces at a time until you freed the fish.

    Help! Yoyo loach stuck

If it's hard plastic, try to gently crack and then break away small pieces of plastic underwater with pliars or channel locks until you've broken open the hole to free him.

    Chemical measurements

Normally for just the water you changing because the water has already had it chlorine and chloramine removed. Put the water conditioner in the container you're refilling with before you add it to the tank. Otherwise the chlorine has time to do damage in the tank before it gets neutralized.

Adding salt to a freshwater tank

I'd say a little salt on Talapia is good if you don't care for flounder.

Adding salt to a freshwater tank

The information you read was incorrect. A smaller amount than that is beneficial to pond koi and comets...much smaller. But freshwater fish come from freshwater naturally without any salt to help them srcrete a substance that comes from ducts in their skin. Save the salt for the next flounder...

Can I breed a small number of guppies?

That may work. Since it's just 3 guppies, you could use a 10 gallon tank and put a devider in it for her to have her own 1/3 of the tank. But I have a question for you. How are you going to find a female guppy that you know has not already mated. Males deliver entire packets of sperm during the...

Can I breed a small number of guppies?

Your biggest threat won't be for the males but the female. They will both constantly bother her to death trying to breed with her. She may not even get a chance to eat.

tank smells like dug up lawn

I just read that your tank smells like dung in the lawn.

tank smells like dug up lawn

I mentioned earlier that the bacter in aquariums works the same as in soil. Bacteria give off other harmless (and harmful) substances as well. They give off gasses that are harmless to the tank that evaporates. An earthy smell does not sound alarming unless your not getting fresh air flow...

tank smells like dug up lawn

Without knowing any specifics about your tank, the same nitrogen cycle that occurs in your tank occurs in soil naturally by the same bacteria. If it smells too severe, check water perameters and partially change water as needed.

How should I ship my fish?

The amount of BB that are free floating in the water won't make much difference. Oxygen and ammonia are the reason they have to be shipped so quickly anyway.

How should I ship my fish?

If you can jist twist the bags and tie them tight enough, that would be fine too.
  16. F

How should I ship my fish?

Four per bag is fine. I recommend the rubber bands because twist ties will loosen.
  17. F

How should I ship my fish?

You need to use regular storage bags theat you buy with twist ties...only don't use the ties, esu rubber bands. You'll have to only put a couple of fish per bag making sure each bag has half water and half air when sealed.. Pack them tightly together with polyfoam or fiber all around the edges...

    Stocking Ideas?

Yes. They usually just ignore each other. I have a betta in a tank with 5 grown angelfish and a school of redeye tetras.

    Stocking Ideas?

Well, you've already got 2 of your fish decided...a male and female ram. For color and schooling, I would go with about 6 green or cardinal tetras. And a 4 nice cory catfish of the same species so they will school too. Then you can go with one feature fish like a single male betta. Stay away...

What do you feed your corys?

Put a few flakes in that are crunched pretty small under the water surface between your finger and rub so they will sink whe you feed the regular flakes. The other fish will go for the larger flakes. The cories have pretty small mouths and will graze the bottom for the small bits.

What do you feed your corys?

I bought a bag of catfish food online that I thought was a good deal. Nothing would eat it. My cory catfish just nibble on small crumbs of flakes that make it to the bottom. They're nice and fat and hyperactive. Alway grazing together on the substrate.

    3 day vacation

I slightly overdosed my fish about 7 months ago with PraziPro. It caused them to completely stop eating during the whole 5 day treatment. It didn't harm them at all. I still have all of them and they are all very healthy.

    Simple question

No. Small traces of vinegar will be neutralized in the water. Vinager is a 5% acetic acid that small traces will neutralize in the presence of water. The inhabitants of the tank won't even know it was there.

What do you feed your corys?

You may also try the sinking shrimp pellets. Cories love them.

What do you feed your corys?

Try the pill splitting method. Break each wafer into small pieces and sprinkle the pieces throughout the tank at the same time as the flakes. The cories will have a better chance to feed while the rest of the fish are on an easter egg hunt for the food.
