    CO2 tornado or ladder?

I thought the CO2 can corrode the impellers in the filter? The hagen ladder worked well for me, most of the CO2 is fully dissolved before it reaches the top. Actually it caused too much CO2 to be dissolved in the tank and the fish were having a hard time breathing. Could also be due to the...

I have a hagan ladder and my small fish keep getting trapped inside it :/ Havent thought of a way around this yet... but i have to keep checking. In the 1 week i've had it, 3 fish have been trapped in it.

Vacuming a tank with ground cover

I asked a question like this last week. To be honest i thought it would have been in one of the pinned topics as there must be quite a few people who are new to planted tanks wondering the same thing

    waste control?

I bought this yellow gloopy stuff that says you dont have to do a water change for up to 6 months if you keep adding it each week!! I used it once or twice but then decided i feel better if i change the water instead.

    has anybody ever shipped fish?

If you have an air pump for your aquarium you could put the pipe in the bag and tighten the bag around it until it's full with air. You can also buy oxygen tablets, i dont know if they would be any good for this?

    Question about securing floating plants

I was thinking of using a breeding net, but as my tank is only 12G it'll take up half the tank :(

    Question about securing floating plants

I recently bought some Riccia Fluitans and at the moment it's too small for me to keep tied down in a net - i used a net with small holes but they were still too big and most of it has come out. So rather than having the hassle of trying to tie it in the net again i thought i'd let it float...

Finally found my missing zebra danio

my bristlenose catfish used to do something like that. when the water was high enough they'd jump into the gap behind the waterfall, eat whatever they could, then jump back.

    Green Hydra...everywhere!

that site also lists daphnia as a predator. You could add some of them to clear up the hydra and then add a fish to clear up the daphnia Edit - after having a second look at that page it also lists daphnia as prey, so maybe it wont work

    Aqurium Salt

Hmm that article mentions that salt is bad for plants. Everyone here was thinking about the effects of salt on fish and forgot about plants :p

"Hagen Elite sumersible heater" - not submersible?

i have 2 hagen elite heaters and just checked on the back of their boxes - both say it's a minimum water line (in the UK). Mine's been totally submerged for about a year now, so i'd say it's pretty safe.

    Cleaning a planted tank

I've decided i'm going to have a go at a planted tank but i'd like to know how do you manage to clean the gravel / sand with all the plants in the way, especially the ones in the background. At the moment i only have a few plants in my aquarium and have noticed that there's a lot of waste that...

    One word...waterfall.....well two words....WOW

    Wanted: Algae

my bristlenose's and snails like krill pellets as well, if you wanted to vary their diet a bit. Fish love them also, and usually they're gone before the snails get to the pellet. If i drop one near the snail it has to hide in it's shell because of all the fish swimming nearby trying to eat the...

Something growing in my tank. Please help identify!!

The stripped thing is my kulhi loach. I'm 99% sure i only have apple snails. i did use to have another kind of small snail that lived in the filter, but they laid jelly stuff with black dots in - nothing like this. i'll try find my brother's magnifying glass tomorrow and see if i can get a...

    Behavior of Angelfish?

I've had 2 angels that i've had for around 8-9 months now and they're kept in hard water. I also read they like the slightly warmer water temperature than other fish. Mine have grown to be big now, but i think they're both males and one has started to pick on the other one :/ Funny thing is...

Something growing in my tank. Please help identify!!

Apple snails do lay their eggs above the water, mine have done that in the past in a cone shape - all the eggs together. These are small white things dotted around the tank, just on ornaments. if they were snails they'd be moving and i would at least find some on the plants and side of the tank...

Something growing in my tank. Please help identify!!

We do live in a hard-water area so while it could be calcium, there's no sign of it in my other tank which uses the same water from the tap. That makes me think it could be more to do with eggs or some bacteria. Would eggs have hatched by now, as it's been over 6 weeks since the first ones...

    Cracked Snail Shell????

is it chipped, or is it pitted from lack of calcium?

Something growing in my tank. Please help identify!!

they're very hard and stick to the wood well. when you say it could be calcium is that like the limescale that appears around the top water line? These appear at the bottom of the tank. they are flattish - they have a small bump

Something growing in my tank. Please help identify!!

It's ok, thanks for your help. I do have 2 other types of fish (in pairs), but i'm not sure what species they are :/ Also, where these white things appear in other places, there can be just one on it's own, not in a group like shown in the picture. If they were eggs is it likely there would be...

Something growing in my tank. Please help identify!!

They're not snails, i only have apple snails in the tank. These are not moving, they're stuck onto the wood quite firmly but there's a lot of them all over the tank. They're also kinda flat. The fish arent bothered by them, i havent seen them try to eat them or anything. i'm just hoping it's...
