What do fishes think of us?

I love this post, and have often wondered the same thing. Most if not all of the fish in my community tank seem completely unaffected by my presence. They don't seem to recognize that my appearance near the tank in the evening means food, nor do they hide when I clean the tank. They just seem...

    Stocking advice

I was just on AqAdvisor, worked fine for me. If it was down, looks like it's back up now.

    Pleco or otocinclus?

For what it's worth, I completely solved my diatom/brown algae problem with an albino longfin bristlenose pleco, and by adding PhosGuard to the tank filter. My 75 gallon tank had been plagued with brown algae from the start, for over a year. Can't say which one of these had the biggest impact...

Black Molly Big Belly - Dropsy?

Pregnant! Well well! Turns out not all of my Mollys are female, and the balloon belly was not dropsy, it's pregnancy! I also accidentally figured out a way to make a quick safe place for babies to hide - lettuce leaves float on the surface and make a sort of bowl for the little ones to hide in.

Black Molly Big Belly - Dropsy?

No hospital tank available. I just ordered some Seachem Kanaplex - we'll see if that fixes anything.

Black Molly Big Belly - Dropsy?

This may be the most obvious case of dropsy anyone's ever seen - the thing is, I just don't know! What a glorious big belly! Could she be pregnant? I was told all three of my Molly's are female, and I've had them for nearly a year. I can see individual scales, but I wouldn't say this fish looks...

    Sad Cory Albino Catfish

Mine did the same thing. I only had one at first, so when it seemed depressed I got a bunch of Cory friends and things definitely got better for a while. But after some time, certain fish just seem kinda down in the dumps again. They all look like the healthiest fish in the tank, just have...

    75 Gallon Newbie Tank

Yep earhtmother, I think you're right. I definitely started out with some questionable advice on which fish and how many of each kind... Makes me wonder - anybody have any thoughts on how you can tell if your fish are happy? I swear the two Glowlight Tetras I started out with looked...

    Turquoise danios???

Thanks! I hope you're right and they regain some of their amazing color once they get acclimated to their new world. Just weird that they went from being so brilliant blue in the store, and so grey by the time I got them home. My light is a Marineland model #ML90614-900. The pH is a little high...

    75 Gallon Newbie Tank

This is my first tank since I was like 9 years old... This is so much more fun than I'd imagined it would be! Fish are cool! Here's who's in my 75 gallon tank: 2 Black Phantom Delta Guppies (m) 5 Glowlight Tetras 3 Rummy Nose Tetras 2 Cosmic Blue GloFish Sharks 2 Cosmic Blue GloFish Tetras 4...

    Turquoise danios???

Blue Danios not so blue I just got three of these gorgeous Blue Danios (or Turquoise Danios) from my local aquarium shop a few days ago. They looked so cool in the store, and the sales guy said they would surely school right along with my other danios. Now, I'm not saying they aren't cool...

    Stir the gravel

I saw somewhere else on this forum that vigorously vacuuming the gravel at every weekly water change could also be responsible for that yucky brown algae, which I assume is what those brown spots are that suddenly appeared all over my fake plant leaves, and is nearly impossible to scrape off...

    Kuhlis on Sharp Gravel

Thank you! Thanks for the replies! Hmmm... now I see how people end up getting several tanks once they get into aquariums! May have to set up a second tank with a softer substrate once I get this first one going!

    Kuhlis on Sharp Gravel

I think Kuhli Loaches are the coolest, and would love to have some in my tank once I get going. (I'm still in the fishless cycling phase of my first freshwater aquarium.) However, I've put in some rather sharp black gravel I got at Petco, and I'm worried that Kuhli's won't like that. I do have a...

    I'm new!

Just wanted to introduce myself and thank you all in advance for any advice, shared experiences, and inspiration you share. I have fond memories of the 20-gallon tropical fish tank I had as a kid, and wanted a new hobby to keep me off pointless time-vacuums like Facebook! So I am starting a 75...

    My Super Boring Tank

This is my 75 gallon black gravel tank. Better with fish in it! Plants are fake and real. "Driftwood" is fake, which is a bummer, except that there's a built-in cave, which the Sharks love, so that's cool!
