    Cloudy at every water change?

Idk why it double posted but I can’t figure out how to delete this one? LOL

    Cloudy at every water change?

So I guess it’s not really the water that is cloudy, but the glass? I was thinking...do you think that it could be calcium coming out of the water column and attaching to my surfaces because of temperature fluctuations? My tank goes from about 76 degrees overnights when my girl keeps it at 70...

    Cloudy at every water change?

Those deposits are only white while this is happening. Afterward and before it is brown, like algae, but only on the filter/heater. Everywhere on the glass it’s invisible...like can’t see anything at all except crystal clear glass until this occurs, and then I can see snail trails through the...

    Cloudy at every water change?

I’m pretty well planted so I don’t gravel vac at all, unfortunately...or fortunately, depending on how you look at it;) That would cause cloudiness?

    Cloudy at every water change?

So I did an extra 5g water change after it started getting cloudy, and while the cloudiness still occurred, it did seem to go away a little faster than it normally does...? *shrug*

    Cloudy at every water change?

Can you see the white stuff on the glass and filter components that I’m talking about? And the sponge filter is started to turn whiteish as well.

    Cloudy at every water change?

Alright so I brain farted and tested the ammonia instead of the ph on the jug that I left the lid off of, and then did my water change so I’d empty another jug before I went to my LFS, LOL...but I did test ph on my tank, as well as the other jug that I left the lid ON (but it’s been sitting for...

    Cloudy at every water change?

Eh, it’s not that bad. I’m usually going to my LFS every few weeks anyway just to see what they got in and just to chat with them. So while I’m there I just stock up on water and leave it sitting until I need it. If I go RO then I have to worry about supplementing the water, etc, which seems...

    Cloudy at every water change?

Ph was high 8s. Kh gh not sure I’ve never tested for those tbh lol I don’t use RO water for that reason. My shrimp are healthy and molting, and even breeding actually. :)

    Cloudy at every water change?

My tap water is super hard and has a really high ph. My LFS sells filtered fresh and RO water, so rather than have to worry about my tap water I just slowly refilled my tank with their water, so it would be the same for any stock I bring home.

    Cloudy at every water change?

Because I don’t need the water right away lol. That would mean I’d have to drive over an hour every week just to do “fresh” water changes. I use API’s stress coat+ I change my water weekly I don’t vacuum my substrate because I’m pretty well planted/have a lot of cleaners in my tank as is. I...

    Cloudy at every water change?

I do have a ph test. I took the lid off one jug, and left it on the other. On Monday, before my water change, I will test ph of both plus my tank and post back with results. I forgot to mention, when this occurs, any brown algae growing on my filter components, and what I assume to be...

    Cloudy at every water change?

Awesome, thanks so much for your help and for humoring all my curious-George questions haha. I do water changes on Monday, so I’m taking the lid off now. That will be enough time for 5 gallons to degas, right? Man I hope this is it haha it will give me such peace of mind

    Cloudy at every water change?

Ah ok, so this coming week I will take the lid off the jug a couple days before and see what happens. Let me ask you this, then...I don’t dose co2 for my plants at all...should I NOT degas the water so the plants can have it? Ah gotcha. It’s not intentional lol. I just live a ways away from...

    Cloudy at every water change?

The tap water actually sits in my bathroom closet for a week + before it gets used, but thank you for your ideas. I actually thought we had it figured out until mj reminded me that I age the water. Unless you think that’s what could still be going on, ZxC? I don’t know if it makes a difference...

    Cloudy at every water change?

Seriously, if I change even 5 gallons of my water my tank gets a little cloudy. No other side effects...fish behave normally/normal breathing, snails, shrimp...all fine... Has anyone ever encountered this before? I admit my tank has been one of ‘those’ from the start...took me forever to...

    Discouraged.

I feel you...my tank gets cloudy every time I do even a partial water change and nobody can figure out why

    Been lurking for a while

Thanks for the advice. It’s actually something I have been pondering, and I would love for Raat to have a friend, but I was under the impression that it is best if the two are paired up, and since he (I believe it is a male as he appears to have a ‘bump’ on his head) was raised in there by...

    Fresh water aquarium

I would be very hesitant. I know they make aquarium-safe silicone, I assume for a reason. Probably has to do w the chemical makeup of the ‘normal’ stuff if I had to guess. I am new, though, so hopefully someone else will chime in w a definite answer, but better safe than sorry in the meantime

    Been lurking for a while

Thank you goat, and thank you Dela. My transition is actually complete now, with all of the plastic plants being gone except for the little green shrubby/grassy ones that sit beneath my swords. I would prefer to remove them and plant some grassy plant/moss carpet up there, but as the roots to...

    Been lurking for a while

Hey everyone, I’ve used this site for research purposes religiously along this 8-10 month roller coaster ride of fish keeping, but first time posting obviously. (LOL jk apparently I posted once before and forgot about it, and never made an intro post) I currently have a 46G bowfront that is...

    Stocking levels and schools

Hello all, Long time lurker first time poster...I have a question regarding stocking the different ‘Levels’ of my aquarium properly... How many schools is too many per level? I have a 46 gallon bow front, with an angel and the 5 zebra danios who I used to cycle...I’m actually trying to decide...
