Welcome to AA. You didnt come off as a know it all, dont worry. You might wish to stay away from the damsel, they tend to get aggressive as they get older. If you get 2 clowns, make sure you get a mated pair, or make sure they are very young when you get them. Dont know much about the...

What type of star do I have???????

Thank you. I guess it is a good thing that I only want a FOWLR tank. His color didn't change from the lfs to my house, but over night it has deepend into almost a maroon red. I'll try to get more pics up later.

    lots of lime green algae

My GUESS is that it is the combination of the sunlight, tank lighting, and water parameters. Have you done a pwc yet? If so, were you using the premade sw from your lfs? Even removing the lighting from the algea cycle, it is only a temporary fix. As soon as you begin with the lighting...

    lots of lime green algae

Since you do not have any corals or anything else that requires light then yes I would keep them in the dark for a few days (try 3 and go from there). If the tank is not getting "Direct" sunlight then it might not be 100% the cause of it.

What type of star do I have???????

I got a new starfish today, the guy at the lfs called at a red knoby (??). The first picture is a better representation of its true color, the second picture was taken from the top of my tank.

    lots of lime green algae

How much direct sun light is hitting the tank. That will contribute to the algea cycle. Also it will take a few days (5-6) to get rid of the algea. Also if you do not want to purchase your own ro/di unit, some stores (like wal-mart) has the machines in the stores that dispenses it, or you can...

    resealed tank

Are you sure the silicone is ready? I thought (and may be wrong) they took 48 hours to cure. No, that should be all you need to do.

    My dog found a turtle

It is possible that is why the eyes are shut. Also if he was in a lake there could have been some pollution that got into his system and that can take a few days to set in. Never a truer statement. I typically recommend double what you would use for fish when setting up a turtle tank...
