    My sick guppy help!

I would suggest deworming the live bearers. Do you have a worming routine? If you have not dewormed in the last few months I may save your other fish? Fingers crossed for the little female.

Can fish get ich with nothing new introduced?

I believe both stories to be true. I don’t have any Scientific information just a hunch . To many old timers have stories of ich just turning up in an aquarium for there not to be some truth in the belief that ich somehow is always around. It could be eggs ( cysts ) that have a time delay on...

    Water Flow question

riederer is correct. Dead spots are the go to spot for vacuuming weekly and midweek you know the spot to pick up waste. Adjustments can be made in the direction of flow to have a dead spot out of sight at the back so you don’t know to see poop. Or so the poop settles in the front and you know...

    Molly fish- White slime? D:

Carbon is not used by anyone in my local club on a permanent basis. Carbon can be used to remove medication and a smell they say. Total waste of space. Actually bacteria lives on carbon just like any hard surface but that’s beside the point.

    Molly fish- White slime? D:

Have you read of the nitrogen cycle and the beneficial bacteria we all have in our tanks that eat ammonia? Do not clean any rocks. You should be vacuuming up solids yes but not wiping bacteria away like it’s some kind of problem. I have heavily stocked fry tanks that get multiple water changes...

    Talking... Endlers Livebearers!

My opinion. Endlers should have a male tank and a female tank. Only one or two females should ever be allowed to be pregnant. As the females drop 3 batches of fry from one encounter with a male . Carefully separating the fry will mean you never have to many fish and you will never need to buy...

    Molly fish- White slime? D:

Hi Elocrocker You need to change some of the water . I suggest you changing only about 25% . Replacing with temperature matched and conditioned water. Because the nitrates are so high I would suggest only 25% for fear of shocking the fish with a chance in parameters. Wait 2 or 3 hours and do...

    Major upgrade

Yes it looks good, but check your tap water for nitrates please.

    Major upgrade

Hi Fishyfish33, You have the theory correct but I am not sure if a few freeze dried shrimp will rot into enough ammonia to start the cycle let alone produce enough ammonia to imitate the daily poop load / bio load of a tank full of fish or even half a tank of fish. Should you be successful in...

I to think you will get more joy from corydoras.

    First tank EVER!!!

Thanks for sharing your journey so far I suggest you keep a close eye on the dwarf gourami. You may want to check on the gourami at night in the dark with a flashlight. If he wants the spot with the slowest current in the tank to rest fine, if he wants all of the...

    Sea monkeys as feed?

Your fish will thank you if you raise live food/ foods for them. There are a ton of U tube posts on raising baby brine shrimp. This guy actually does it every day and has the brine shrimp growing out to adulthood. He even has the brine shrimp breeding in a tank of their own. A real gentleman in...

    Sea monkeys as feed?

Hi Wolfeman, Brine shrimp are an excellent source of protein for most small fish. They are mostly used within the first 48 hours of hatching as the eggs sack is high protein. After 2 days it is recognised that adult brine shrimp are only as good as their last meal ( stomach contents ) I raise...

    Need help with sick betta

Hi HinataNirvana, I have also got a 2.5 gallon shrimp tank and realise just how small they are. Can you tell us the level of no3 or nitrates in the tank please? I can’t see much of anything in the picture. How much and how often do you change water in the tank? Do you know the temperature of...

    Stocking ideas

I am under the impression that tiger barbs really do need to be in a tank on their own as the are aggressive fin nippers. I suggested the large school of tetras only because they show more natural behaviours in a much larger group than the minimum 5 often recommended.

    Stocking ideas

Hi gejegeb69, I am serious when I suggest you add another 5 or 6 Burnos tetras. Or if you are prepared to do the water changes even more tetras all the same species.

    5 weeks ammonia 8ppm

A couple of things I can help you with ComeFullCycle. First you need to check that you have no nitrates in your tap water? If the tap water has no nitrates then the rest will make sense. One can’t have the bacteria that poop nitrates with the bacteria that poop nitrites. Don’t worry about never...

    Could this be ICH?

I also think water quality is the issue Dannie9573 Quote “I noticed there was a lot of waste floating around even only after a week and a half so I did a 15% water change and took out as much as I could. Now my water is a little cloudy” Does this mean your normal water change routine is...

Is my ‘biggest’ Neon a female carrying eggs??

Hi Pisces68 This does not look good I am afraid to say. That looks like more than a few eggs? While it is possible to breed this species in a home aquarium it is quite a tricky thing to do . The link I add talks you through the process of lowering the PH below a level that bacteria can live...

    Fry tank *size/shape* question

Hi earthmother, I was told a long time ago and have since confirmed that in order to get strong fast growth from fry multiple water changes are necessary. I assume you have dozens of endlers and BN plecos? I have an 83 litre / 22 gallon tall with female and endler fry my routine is two 45%...

    New to Tankdom

Hi Gypsea,, Stop changing the filter cartridges. They can get a rinse in old tank water each month or two. But they should not be replaced. Carbon is not used by anyone I know in there tank on a continuous basis. The carbon will be a home the beneficial bacteria like any hard surface. After two...

Hello again and what is this?

Hi TomSawyer, If the fluff that is near the output of the filter is black is almost certainly black beard algae. ( dark blue)

    feeding guppies

Morning all, Adding the first fish to a newly established cycled tank can be done in 2 or 3 loads safely. Adding all the fish at once can also be done . Whatever number you add a simple water test and possibly EXTRA water change is the solution to pollution. It is said that bacteria can double...

    feeding guppies

You will need to feed a few wild bacteria an ammonia source so they multiply into two large colonies. It takes at least 4 weeks often longer. Only a test kit will tell you if the bacteria numbers are large enough to consume a daily dose of ammonia equal to the daily poop load of the projected...

    feeding guppies

Hi Lola, Are you aware of the nitrogen cycle and the need to have living colonies of bacteria on your tanks hard surfaces before a container becomes an aquarium? Guppies will eat most dry foods. They are omnivorous which means they eat some plant material as part of their diet and not so much...
