    What's the craze about corys?

Do NOT buy algae pellets and expect corys to eat them. Corys are bottom feeders but that does not mean that they'll eat algae. They eat worms like tubifex and black worms as well as food that has fallen to the bottom. THEY ARE NOT ALGAE EATERS!! They may, on rare occasions, except veggy...

    HELP!!!!! Dead BN!!!!!

Didn't you read that these were at school. They were always under my contemperary supervision while they were set up. I would check these daily. Besides, I dropped the class. The teacher could not manage to contain her class within certain bounderies and I notified the principle of this and...

    Going Away on Weekend

I'm going to have to correct you catfishattack. Fish are not cold blooded, they are ectotherms as we are endotherms. Yes, fish cannot use energy in the form of heat and are alike with reptiles being ectotherms. And just because they are ectotherms like reptiles, that doesn't mean they have a...

    HELP!!!!! Dead BN!!!!!

Well, first the pH on the one that went pH crazy did have the fish die, in a matter of hours. Second, I checked the pH on the other tank and it was at 7.2 just like the other two. And quite recently, I discovered that the 2 others were overfed by someone and now they are dead. So, I gave the...

    HELP!!!!! Dead BN!!!!!

No, I am afraid they weren't old enough to be mature let alone the size. And the same thing didn't happen again. The fish in the first case had had the slime coat pealing off the skin while the second case did not. And now the

Is my Red Wag Swordtail in labor

I am sorry. Good luck in the future. I wonder what had happened? The way you described it, it sounded like low oxygen levels though I doubt it.

    Can't make up my mind

I agree. I currently have a 12gal swt in place and it has run me over $300.00 and the only fish I have is 2 perculia clowns. I intend to get several more.

What's wrong with my new cory?

Do you own corys? If you do, didn't you ever wonder why they make a rapid dash torwards the surface then return to the bottom? They probably do it twice daily. They contain in their intestens

This is what I do; first snap a pic of the fish in the normal tank it is in. Then take him out and put him in a small 2 1/2gal with a substrate and plants in the background. Place a peice of glass in the middle of the tank, seperating the swim area from the plants. Then place the fish in the...

I need to breed albino corydoras aeneus!

I have heard of the methalane Blue killing the fry and keeping the eggs void of fungus. Any comments?

What's wrong with my new cory?

Corys are famous for swallowing air seeing as how they have no swim bladders. After words they will fart it out and then resurface for another gulp of air. It could be that this is a sign of constipation and could prove to be a problem.

Is my Red Wag Swordtail in labor

Caspar, this is not normal. When livebearers "livebear" they just drop them and if they get the chance they eat them. They do not really go into labor so I would suspect that something is up. Don't be too worried it could be slight pain but I would never have seen it coming.

    HELP!!!!! Dead BN!!!!!

Take a look into the spurilina tablets. They are the same size as the fish. That is why I fed them bi-daily. And none of the other fish are having any problems with it. :? Edit: Oh, and no sign of being skinny or bloated. I checked in on them three times per day. And no discoloration at...

    Can't make up my mind

I would recommend a alternative tank which is a tank where you put any fish that are either too agresive, being picked on too much, or have a deceised mate and you can use their breeder tank for someone/thing else. This is useful for anyone that owns 2-5+ tanks and is pretty much mandatory for...

    Getting serious about breeding BN

I am sorry. I forgot to mention that it is best to set them up to spawn when you know that at least a medium to large sized rainstorm or even a snowstorm is on its way and is going to go over you. Do small waterchanges of about 5-10% until the storm hits. Then do a huge waterchange of up to...

    I got eggs again.....

I have just recieved notice that if you are loosing fry, you should try sand. The fry are so small that they will slip 'into' the gravel and may die. My source said that when one removes the undergravel filter, you will see the fry under there.

    HELP!!!!! Dead BN!!!!!

Yes, it was 4 that died and they weren't even over 30mm as were the other twelve. I had four per tank, with two 10gals and two 5gals. I fed them bi-daily of spurilina tablets and tri-daily with shrimp pellets. The hole tank looked perfectly fine, and there was little algae hence the tablets...

    Betta bubble nest?

Bettas build bubble nests when they feel that the fry can tolerate the conditions. In other words, if your male builds a bubble nest, the water is good and clean and is keeping them healthy.

I need to breed albino corydoras aeneus!

Thank you for your help. What I am having problems with is Methalane Blue. I'm afraid it is killing my fry once they hatch. When I don't use it, the eggs hatch at 50% maybe. And I am not over dosing at all.

    I got eggs again.....

For the eggs try using methalane Blue. It demotes fungal and bacterial growth on the eggs, and is even healthy for the other fish and plants follow the directions exactly though. If you overdose, you can kill your plants, possibly eggs, and you will turn your glass blue. So be very careful...

    Getting serious about breeding BN

I have had luck with this sp. as well. 1. Yes pH does play an important factor. I'd say keep it anywhere from 7.2 to 8.2. 2. I do agree with the bare bottom as well. I have to keep them in this or else the fry become poluted and tend to die. 3. A sponge works for fry becuase it won't...

    deformed platy fry?

Yes. I'm sorry. I said "Betta imbelis giganticae". He was really a Betta splendens, and yes, I did. I kept him in a hydroponic vase. You know the ones that have the plants coming out of the top and the roots in the water. He lived in that for about years and we managed to breed him in his...
