    Hermit crab Hostility!

I would agree its eating some algae or something within the colony and would not worry about it unless you actually see damage to the colony itself.

    feeding starfish

I agree with Austins Dad you should not have to target feed them, however I do make sure I see the starfish find food at least once a week or target feed with shrimp pellets. I have bristle stars, but would like some Linkia stars like Melosu58 has...if they are reef safe for my corals and...

    TOO MANY anemones

    Got a photo of them?

Nooo.. look what the tank maitenence guy did!!

I would drain it all if not most of it, the chlorine is a problem but even worse are the heavy metals and other problem items found in the tap water. If it were at least filtered water leaving it in to cycle would not sound like such a bad idea too me.

    I love my cleaner shrimp!

Thats too bad. My kids love all the critters, but their favorite in the tank is the porcupine puffer (more when it decides to stretch out and puffs than not) you can hear them yell throughout the house if they catch it puffing up..too bad it does not stretch more often for them.

    fuge macroalgae

I have never had a problem but always trim it down and put the "extra" into my main tank where the tang and snails go to town wiping it out in under a day.

    Finally! Pics of my tank.

Main looks good, nice rock work. Your sump area looks huge with plenty of room for you to get in there...the 30G I made and is under my 75 takes up the entire area under the tank and is a pain to get in there and really do anything.

Help with my 1st Saltwater Setup

I am not too sure why the skimmer if your not going with any corals. If your going to go with fish only and some live rock, and of course clean up crew of crabs and snails the skimmer may be overkill.

How many tangs is too many?

I have had a Sailfin Tang for about 7 years now, she was pretty small when i got her and lived in a 45G aquarium for about 3 years. Her growth was one of my excuses to upgrade that tank to a 75G where she has been for the last 4 years. She is now about 7" in size and gets around nicely in the...

    Hidden predetors

If you have moon lights of any sort, placing a piece of food near the LR inside something similar too a a testtube to keep fish from eating it may draw the thing out so you can at least see it. If the fish did simply die of stress, anything in your tank may have decided it was a good snack...

    mandrin

If you feel the need to keep the madrin in QT you could always throw in some of your 125lb of rock in with him...that will place some food into the tank with it.

    RO/DI unit hook up

Thanks, I was linked to both a faucet adapter and a hose adapter and have both on the way. This will just postpone the water change I was planning for today.

    RO/DI unit hook up

I had planned on hooking the RO/DI unit up to a hose, surprised at the size threading going into the unit and it only comes with a tap for you to tap into a cold water line. Does anyone else run a hose to their unit? Just wondering if there is such a thing as too much water pressure. I plan...

    tank size

And if fed well, they will grow pretty quickly. I have a sailfin tang in a 75G tank, she does fine in this size but am sure she would appreciate more swimming room.

Issues with building a tank into a wall?

Thanks Duke, do you have a sump under the tank or in a room below? Any problems you ran into while doing it?

Any way to help with nitrates?!?

I just replaced several pounds of non-ocean rock with 45lbs of live rock that came in with much dying plants etc...should have scrapped it off....now my tank is cycling again and I am having some nitrate problems of my own. I have not owned a RO/DI unit in the past but have one coming in this...

    Switching Sumps

I just did the same thing this weekend, well replace my sump with a larger one. I moved my HOB skimmer into the sump area awhile back, it hangs off the sump on the outside back. Works fine, not the easiest thing to get too.

    Stovepipe style overflow operation

Possibly some images will help, these are a bit different from any overflows I have seen. This is the overflow as seen from the front of the tank: This is a view from further back: And this is the view from the top: It is odd, it will go for a long period of time making the sucking...

    $500 Lighting Budget. Pointers?

I have (4) 96W PC fixture, it works well as far as output however I have always found the look of a tank much nicer with MH bulbs, something about the shadows or something they provide that the PC just does not give. My next set will include some MH fixtures, or the mix of MH and PC...they had...

    White dust all over everything

It could be salt creep, but I only get that on my tank and things that are in direct contact with/very close too the tank.

    Stovepipe style overflow operation

My 75 gal tank has stove pipe style overflow and return, the overflow on the right side and return on the left. Each hole in the bottom of the tank is about 5 inches in on each side, the "Stove pipes" rise up and the overflow has a cap with a straw in it which is supposed to help with noise. I...

    Relocating a tank

I do not think an airstone will be necessary, I would however transport as much of the water from the existing tank as you can transport. This will prevent any huge changes in the water chemistry and allow it to be more of a 50% water change than anything else. If you do not own enough...

    Moving my SW reef tank

I cannot see you being able to move the tank without destroying the burrow. It simply will have to re-dig...if your using the same tank and rock arrangement there is a good chance that it will find that same spot and re-dig...you could help promote that by starting the hole yourself after the...

    disaster

Thats horrible, sorry to hear about the damage to the tank. Glad there was enough water left to save the livestock.

My Toddler figured out how to get to my tank!!

I have a 15 month old, if you spend time with them and talk to them like a person you realize that they understand much more than most give them credit for. We have 'trained' her for a lack of a better word with a couple phrases..."Hot" and "No Touchy" She fully understands "Hot" means it...
