    Help an unprepared person

Hopefully you have a good filter running and I really don’t know a lot about gold fish but I know that you need patience with tanks. Also oxygen is very important so a good idea is an air stone. From what I’ve read on here, goldfish need 30 gallon for one fish and 10 more for each additional...

    Turbo the Mystery Snail

Have an awesome video of this guy riding bubbles from air stone like an elevator. Mystery snails are awesome!

    Tank question

#1 - I’m jealous #2 - how about a new thread showing your 18 tanks with stocking list and setup descriptions? I really enjoy seeing how everyone else stocks and scapes their tanks. Thank you

    Freshwater Refugium?

Awesome feedback, thank you. I really considered going SW with this, but after considering and calculating costs, and that I am still very new to fishkeeping, I’m sticking with FW for now. Long term I figure I could switch the FW fish to new tank and use BioCube for SW. I like the mix you...

Cannot cycle for the life of me!!!

Have you tried taking out one sponge filter? If you have no fish = no waste, so your want that to build up. Have any friends that have established aquarium or can you ask your LFS for some used filter media? Either that or get some bottled quick start and you will be good in short amount of time.

    Freshwater Refugium?

Good to know, and again thank you for the advice! I think the crypts are a great idea, thank you! And please let me know if you experiment with the java fern, I would like to know the outcome. In my other small nano tank currently have Amazon Sword, Java Moss and Marimo moss balls in low tech...

Upgrading my filtration! What about my old pads??

Here is my over-filtered HOB with sponges on bottom, some floss in middle and bio balls on top - working amazing!

    Freshwater Refugium?

Thanks Aiken! I do hope though that the BioCube has sufficient light to be a planted tank (they advertise it as such)... please see below from the specs: LED BioCube® PAR* - 53 Peak PAR @ 12" - 81 Lux* - 2200 Peak Lux @ 12" - 3430 What do you think of that light setup? I’m definitely doing...

    Freshwater Refugium?

I think you are correct and sometimes I get a little too creative with my planning. Since you are now familiar with the Biocube setup, the lights are actually awesome - they are able to grow corals, so plants should not be a problem. Okay freshwater refugium whacky idea put on hold for now...

Upgrading my filtration! What about my old pads??

This works. I did this with my HOB filter and what I did was take one used cartridge (it is supposed to use 2) and put it in a solo cup with the Bioballs (new media) and soaked in tank water. Then put 2nd bag of new media in filter with other old cartridge. Ran filter and added fish...

    Cleanup Crew questions

great advice... personally i do recommend getting snail-tolerant fish if you want cleanup crew - snails are awesome... also a bunch 'o shrimp

    Freshwater Refugium?

YES! Intended for adding water volume to tank/ crazy good ability to handle bioload (i already modified my HOB on other tank and over-filter that one which makes both my fish and me very happy) So... I bought a biocube 32 gallon, which i know is intended to be saltwater tank, but you can use for...

    Delapool's 150 gallon tank

Tank looks very cool - have any more pictures of the front? Also, I see you have angel fish - do you enjoy/ recommend keeping them? I’m planning a new biocube32 freshwater and debating how to stock. One of the options I’m considering would be a pair of angelfish. Thanks for sharing and the...

    5 gallon

So this is kind of a misfit tank and they somehow all get along - my guess is because it contains plenty of hiding places and they are well fed a variety of foods. There are only 3 Serpae’s because my guy at my LFS only had that odd number left when I was stocking and they are chill dudes. The...

    5 gallon

Betta, mystery, Serpae tetras, von rio tetras, golden shrimp... also some bladder snails that snuck in on plants. I honestly LOVE my mystery snail, “Turbo” - very entertaining. Watching him ride the bubbles from the air stone up like an elevator and then glide down onto a leaf... dude is cool...

    Freshwater Refugium?

Curious if anyone has experience setting up a freshwater Refugium as part of filtration? I am setting up a new cube aquarium and considering modifying filter and adding Refugium with plants. Has anyone had success or tried this? I understand that I can just add more Bioballs or lava rocks...

    5 gallon

I would recommend a Betta - he (assuming you would get one male) would do very well in there, you could even do a mystery snail, some shrimp... I have a community tank setup like that with some tetras as well, very fun tank!

    Introduction - Hello from PA

Hi Everyone, I recently picked up this hobby after my young son decided he wanted a GloBetta fish in lieu of the bearded dragon we initially intended to buy as “his” first pet. I had never kept fish prior, and bought a teeny little cube and thought I was doing this guy (son named him Charlie...

    Filter cartridge changes

Yeah I didn’t like that concept either and once I figured out the mechanics of the filtration, it’s fairly easy to replicate. They make cartridges like that just to make you buy more and more often... there are many filtration alternatives if you start to nerd out like I have on this, haha

    Filter Too Strong?

Can you turn down speed of filter? Can you add a sponge to intake? Also a tip to turn off filter while feeding and turn back on after fish have finished eating.

Cloudy water for 2 weeks, Help

Also try limiting your light use in the tank. Bacterial blooms can often occur in uncycled tank if you are runnning the aquarium lights a lot.

    Filter cartridge changes

I threw my filter cartridges in the trash with my HOB filter and made my own replacements with sponges, filter floss and bio balls in a mesh bag where filter cartridges used to go. Just take them out and rinse monthly. You can also use a polishing pad to get immediately clear water, but you’ll...

    Help!

You would need to dechlorinate the water first before putting in the tank, and then get yourself a good water test kit. API Master test kit seems to be the most common and readily available. Once you get accurate test (nitrite or nitrate or high pH, etc.) you will know what you need to tweak...
