White "junk" dirtying up betta tank?

I have no idea what it is for sure, but I bought a 5.5 gallon aqueon tank to use as a quarantine tank a few months ago. Because it was quarantine tank all I had in there was a mini sponge filter (which had been used before without white flaky stuff everywhere) and a Betta hammock (which also had...

Why are all my fish huddling together?

There could be other reasons I'm unaware of, but I have had all my fish in a tank huddling in the same spot all together only once and it was because I had large amounts of ammonia. How did you clean your tank and can you test your water?

Does my betta tank need salt?

I have only been doing this myself for year and a half - 2 years, but I would say you were right. I've only heard it used before with certain sickness for fish. I've had 2 Betta tanks for the time I've been in hobby and never used or heard of needing to use aquarium salt on a normal basis in a...

    Huge betta

Googled freshwater sponges and it definitely doesn't seem like that. They didn't wiggle or move at all, almost looked like decaying matter of some sort floating around. The only thing I had circulating water was that sponge filter. I did end up a couple hours ago just putting him back in his...

UPDATE(and another question) Thank you very much, my last post was a Saturday, and I upped my water changes to 90% and started feeding a normal good amount of food. Everyday after that Vader had some HUGE good all brown looking poops and he himself looks way better and not nearly as bloated...

Ah shoot, I was scrolling through the new posts and not paying enough attention to what forums I'm under. Was curious why no one had answered yet.

    [NEWBIE] Cycling Tank

The only thing I know for sure, I have seen others say on this forum is you need to be able to dose 2ppm ammonia and it be gone in 24 hours. Hope someone else can elaborate on that more for you.

    Huge betta

Thank you, I will up the percentage of my water changes, and I just ordered the omega one food you mentioned, I have the new life spectrum food mentioned already. I will try a combination of those and start feeding a normal amount again. And will start a new treatment of the Epsom salt as well.

    Huge betta

I'm sure I could get some medications in local pet store or online if needed, I just haven't came across any information on medicine for constipation and I wasn't sure if I should be medicating for anything else if I don't think it's a parasite or anything like that? But I'm not sure, I'm open...

    Huge betta

I've been doing the 50% water changes every evening. I was thinking I shouldn't be feeding him a normal amount since he is bloated? Is that wrong? Should I be feeding a normal amount still? I have been feeding him only once a day right before a water change instead of the twice a day I used to...

    Huge betta

I started this epsom salt treatment last Saturday afternoon. It is now the following Saturday morning (7 days). I notice in the ES treatment thread it says after 7-14 days you can re dose the ES with 1 teaspoon per gallon rather than the first initial does of 1 tablespoon per gallon. I was...

Thank you for the information, I will pay closer attention the next times he goes, but unfortunately I did a water change shortly after taking that picture so can't inspect it closer.

    Huge betta

Thank you, I will get some frozen brine shrimp today and try a little of that and see if I can find one of those other foods in town, if not I'll order some. Tried again with the peas and still no luck. His poop looks normal from what I'm used to and my knowledge but I will attach a picture as...

    Huge betta

I ended up finding a 5 and a half gallon aqueon and got that. Got it all set up and used 2 gallons from main tank and 2 gallons of fresh water to fill it. Started the Epsom salt treatment and tried to get him to eat some blanched skinned pea with no luck. He takes it but spits it out...

    Huge betta

It will be a clean bucket that I only use for clean water during water changes, won't be able to see through it but should be able to view him ok from the top and when he's at an edge of bucket I should be able to view his side appearance. I trust you it's safe with plants and snails and all...

Yes I have some power outlets in bathroom, I have an extra air pump and a spare mini sponge filter, and extra thermometer I can throw in there too. What would you recommend as far as feeding during this treatment period?

    Huge betta

Thank you for response. I tried asking in your thread but it says over 608 days old and won't allow me to reply. I don't have a hospital or quarantine tank setup. I am a little nervous to do this in main tank, would a 5 gallon bucket with a heater, some floating plants, suction a hammock to...

    Huge betta

I have a Betta that I've had for almost 2 years. Have been feeding him the same diet for about 8 month or so. 1-2 hikari Betta gold pebbles each morning and 1-2 frozen bloodworms each evening. He also is a pig of course and ends up eating some of the albino Cory's food sometimes. Just 2 weeks...

    5 Gallon tank

For re homing otos, try local social media. I'm in a smaller town in the midwest of US and even here there is a Facebook group for the area that people are always re homing, selling, buying.

    Getting rid of duckweed

I have 2 tanks with duckweed in it by accident. Long story short I ordered red root floaters from H2O plants about 8 months ago and was new to floating plants in general. The floating plants they sent looked different from the pictures but I assumed they were just baby red root floaters. After...

    Hey guys

Only thing I can add that I have some experience in is nerite snails. I have no knowledge on onion snails or any other big snails. But as with nerite snails very good algae eaters if you get the right ones. For some odd reason it does seem to matter which kind of nerite you get. I've had 4...

    Amazon Sword Care

I don't have too much experience with them but I have had them do very good in just gravel with a root tab every few months just grew very slow. And I have 1 in a tank with aquasoil and fertilizers, no CO2, and just seems to grow a little faster.

    5 Gallon tank

Look into rasboras. Especially chili rasboras. Certain rasboras will get too big for a 5 gallon though, so if you find some other than chili's make sure you check that. Very good looking colorful small fish. And could have 6ish of them, they like to be in a group. Definitely would agree on re...

    corner fish

Not saying this is the cause in your situation, but I had a similar experience when I first started fish keeping and didn't know much. I only had albino Cory's and a Betta. Betta hid 24/7 and all 5 of the Cory's sat together in one corner of the tank. Also they weren't very interested in food...
