Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Because it’s a medication that treats protozoan parasites and anaerobic bacterial diseases, not an antibiotic.

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Update: I’ve been feeding the fish medicated food for 8 days, white spots on the affected fish cleared up after 5/6 days. No fish losses and they’re all energetic and acting normal, they might actually be in better condition now since they’ve been eating more, they’re certainly all chunkier...

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

I know it’s not a common medicine people use for Ich in freshwater. It says on the box it treats protozoan parasites and anaerobic bacterial infections. Seachem claims it won’t affect the filter bed, I will find out if it works!

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Thanks Colin! My temp increase plan hit a bump, I raised it to 82F and some of the fish showed stress (staying at the surface and breathing hard), tank also became cloudy and I had a brown algae attack (covered some of my plants and the glass in 48 hours), also saw biofilm proliferate but that...

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Thank you Colin for the detailed response, that makes a lot of sense! I’m due for a weekly water change tomorrow so I will siphon the substrate too. The tank is at 80F/26.7C right now, I’m slowly cranking it up, it’s been colder so I hope the heater can get it done. I have a second 100w heater...

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

I posted a video, it’s kind of hard to see because the fish are small https://www.flickr.com/gp/196650743@N06/5e704tuN9p

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Thanks Colin, I’m trying to upload pix, let me see if this works. The medaka had a bent back, hence I suspected swim bladder issue, I did take a video but deleted it when it didn’t make it. It recovered the next day and swam and ate normally, but died the day after. If my water quality is good...

Should I still increase the temp? Or let it be and observe? Thanks in advance!

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Thanks Colin, I suspect it’s stress ich, or something else that resembles Ich. The spots come and go, one day I will see 4-5 spots, the next day I will only see 1-2 on the same fish (it’s been that way this week). It’s only on the bully rasbora and lone rainbow, maybe it’s related to not having...

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Thanks Aiken, the no meds/high temp approach did appeal to me, but I’m not sure my fish (particularly the medaka) would appreciate that, might stress them out a lot, they were tiny when I got them and I had a school of 8, 2 didn’t make it after 1 night. I’m leaning towards Paraguard if I use...

Ich in a possibly still cycling tank

Hi all, My tank is 3.5 weeks old, 29 gallon, heavily planted (14 plants from anubias, myrio, tiger lily, dwarf lily, crypts to fern) and has 4 harleys, 6 medaka, 3 honey gourami + 1 dwarf rainbow (it was given to me for free). They’ve been in the tank for 1 week, I started a fishless cycle but...

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Thank you! I’m leaning towards keeping as is because I worry about disturbing the tank too much taking everything rhizomous out as I have 4 anubias nana petite, 1 tiger lily 1 dwarf lily and 1 Java fern that would need digging, that’s 50% of my plants in the tank. The anubias are turning brown...

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Thanks Aiken! That’s very helpful. I was not given the correct advice at the store - I was told to bury the rhizome deep in the substrate, yikes! Should I dig it up now? Or wait and observe? My substrate is Fluval plant stratum on bottom with a layer of fine sand on top. Thanks again!

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

I’m learning this right now! Thanks for letting me know. Is that why my anubias nanas are showing brown leafs? I do see paler green new leafs sprouting amongst the existing leafs that turned brown. I was thinking perhaps I planted them too deep in the substrate?

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Thanks! I currently use API Leafzone weekly, I am keeping an eye on all the plants to see if everything survives/thrives, will note to look for NA Thrive, looks like I can find it on Amazon locally.

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Thanks Aiken! I’m baffled and I keep thinking of possibilities or maybe I didn’t administer the test correctly, but I’m pretty sure I followed every step with a timer. I do have a lot of plants, so maybe they’re doing more their fair share, that would be great! The fish do eat and poop regularly...

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Good morning, I did a water test using the API master kit, ph 7 and everything else 0 again. I don’t know how to upload the picture but ammonia is yellow as is nitrate and nitrite is blue…

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

I should add I used API conditioner + Seachem Stability for the first 7 days. I added Stability + Stresscoat the day I added fish. I haven’t added anything in the last week.

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

It’s been the same with the api water test kit. I’m due to test tomorrow morning again.

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Thanks Aiken for responding. I did a 20% water change the first week and a 15% change the 2nd week, I have not done a water change since adding fish. My tap water has fairly neutral PH (7-7.2) and shows no ammonia/nitrite on the API stick test which I did as a baseline. I’m at a loss so I’m...

Hi! I’m new here! Am i cycled?

Hi everyone, I’m Kim and I’m new! I started my new 29 gallon tank 3 weeks ago after a lot of research, I have some questions that maybe you can help. 1- cycling: I intended to do fishless cycling and started a planted tank with 14 plants (anubias nana, red myrio, fern, red tiger lotus, crypt...
