Hi Everyone! It's been awhile since I have been here so will make it a point to be here more often! Here is a pic of my BTA which has finally found a spot it really likes! :)

    Favorite Fish?

Without a doubt my favorite fish is the mandarin fish! It is such a beautiful fish and I call it the "hummingbird" of the reef. You need a large well established reef tank or a refugium to supply bugs to keep this fish from starving. JMO Johnny:)

    Fire Shrimp

The Fire Shrimp, also known as Blood Shrimp or Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, is one of the most popular shrimp in the aquarium hobby. It has a blood red body with white spots and a long white antennae. It will set up cleaning stations and remove dead tissue and parasites from fish that present...

    Snowflake Eels

Eels can knock over corals that are not well secured in their moving about the tank although I did not witness that in my 80 reef tank. Johnny:)

tank size for a longnose hawkfish?

Longnosed hawkfish are an awesome fish! I love their markings and unfortunately they will eat inverts like crabs, snails, etc. They love to perch on a high ledge and dive down on their victims! I had one in my 80 gallon reef tank and kept it well fed which reduced the chances of him hunting...

    Snowflake Eels

Hi! I had a snowflake eel for quite awhile and they are so cool! Since you have him eating now I would turn him loose in the tank and let the eel find a cave for his home and this will help in not stressing the eel! It is really neat to watch them stick their head and part of their body out...

new to hexagon aquariums...any suggestions on fish

I pretty much agree with what was said in the other post! You could probably put in a pair of fire fish or a pair of bangaii cardinals as they do not move alot but look really cool! JMO Johnny:)

What made you want a REEF aquarium?

Hi All! What led you to this awesome hobby? Here is my story: It started like a lot of others with a small fish bowl and a goldfish! I have always loved animals and we lived across the road where hundreds of boys went to summer camp and my brothers and I collected all the animals for their...

    New tang

Hi there! Congrats on the new tang! Tangs are beautiful and friendly fish! The only question I have is: Will your tank be big enough? Tangs on the whole need alot of swim space so as not to stress them and cause them to die! I have an 80 gallon reef aquarium as well and do not have...

    WHAT'S YOUR DREAM TANK!

I know we all have had dreams at night while going to sleep about our dream tank! I have had dreams of a 12'x4'x3' reef tank with the right side having LR to the top of the tank and extending out into a large ledge with lots of sps corals on it! The middle and left side will be open...

    A Successful Reef Aquarium

I would like everyone to pick out one important element to a successful reef. There are several out there but pick only one please! I will start this: PATIENCE: I believe this to be one of the most important elements to the success of a reef aquarium. So many of us fail on this element...

    Yellow Mimic Tang

Hey Sue! When I had a Naso Tang I used a lettuce clip and left the Nori in there all day long and no problem! Usually the tang had it all gone anyways! Johnny:) Cucumber slices that is cool!

    My new tank (to be)

Hi there! I would like to mention that I would go to the 75 gallon over the 55 gallon just because of the foot print. It is really hard to aquascape a 55 gallon tank with LR. I would also get some VHO's lighting now instead of shop lights and then if you decide to have corals, clams, etc you...

    Reef "Mush"

Hi All! Ever heard of it? I use this recipe in feeding my tank. It consists of raw shrimp, scallop, clams, krill, raw fish(as long as not to oily), nori and I blend it all up and add a little tank salt water and spread it out in a freezer bag and freeze. I then break off a chunk and...
