i am planning on building a 300 gallon reef and i will be tearing my 55gl tank down will i beable to make a sump out of my 55gl for the 300 to save some money?

well i normally have my lfs test my water so i only test for ammonia and nitrite at home and nitrite is undetectable and my ammonia is thu the roof its higher than my tester reads so its prolly about 1.1-1.2 what can i do other than water changes to lower my ammonia
