help! my tank has been decimated by hurricane frances! everything is dead. things i didn't know i had are dead. came back today to find the power still out and an awful smell. obviously i had no computer to ask you guys where to begin, so here's what i've done so far... drained water and removed...

that's the one i have. i bought a whole new unit because my old one was giving me some funky readings 4 months after purchasing probe #2. what sparked the question was that the calibration fluid that came with the unit has a correction table on the back. not to mention that my ph is at 8.75...

could someone explain to me the correction that needs to be made for temp when using a probe for ph? my current reading on my brand new calibrated probe is 8.65 at 81f. what is my actual reading?

i forgot to mention that i went through an ich outbreak about 4 months ago when i didn't qt the tang long enough before introducing him into the main tank. i removed everyone for 6 weeks and treated them with copper in qt tank. main tank sat fallow.

well the spots came and left in one day so i'm not quite sure what's up. what snowdude said is interesting because i just got a heater and brought my temp up to 81. i guess i'll just keep an eye on everything. he's acting fine though no darting or scratching.

i just noticed 4 little white spots on my tang. they weren't there yesterday. can it be ich even though i haven't introduced anything new into my tank except saltwater from the lfs when i did a water change? this might sound crazy but is there any possibility it could be those little spiral...

does anyone know what the purple-green stuff is? it's starting to grow on a couple places and i'm not sure if it's a good thing or not.

yes i am testing, but i don't mix my own water, i buy it from my lfsand i never thought to test it. also, i don't have alot of coral right now so my demand is on the low side. i'm going to check out that link, so thank you both. if i still have question i know where you are :D

i have little knowledge on the subject of kalk except that it only maintains the levels. would i still have to add the b-ionic? also, should i be treating the new water with something when i do changes?

o.k. i have to admit it.... i hate dosing the tank with ca/alk every day! i've been looking into automatic dosers and could use some advice. i currently use b-ionic and their doser runs about $150 but looks complicated to set up. it seems you have to buy additional parts and assemble them to it...

well i've heard of putting the anenome and the fish in a collander or strainer and floating them in the tank together but i think it's better to let nature take it's course. it took my clown almost 2 months but now they're like peanut butter and jelly. i got sooo excited the first time i saw...

i feed mine little pieces of raw shrimp, silversides, clam, scallop, basically anything. they are scavengers and aren't too picky from my experience.
