    What is this?

it curls inward, but not like a ball. And it's got zoa-like polyps. It sticks out maybe 1/4" from the rock.

    30g Reef after 1 week

he's been in the tank 3 days now, completely unstressed and appears to have made himself at home instantly. I'm keeping a close eye on him just to see if his attitude changes too. I've got some sort of coral growing, but I have no idea what it is. I put a question on the "what is it" area

    30g Reef after 1 week

the one we got from the LFS is approx 1" long. He's small. We'll be buying pods, but he also seems to be eating the frozen food we've put in.

    What is this?

It's a hitchhiker on my cured LR. No idea what it is, it's been growing out of the LR for a week now and looks like it's about to open up. I've got some other stuff that is growing out here and there that is pretty neat, some small featherdusters, some other things.

    Refugium siphon to sump?

guess i'll have to cough up the money for a glass drill bit, and come up with the guts to drill through it! haha.

    30g Reef after 1 week

My family is from Syracuse :) yeah, I'm constantly checking everything, making sure the fish aren't stressed, etc. That's the fun in it for me. Gives me something to tinker with.

    30g Reef after 1 week

I'll definitely be buying pods :) I had that much planned already. And I'll be populating the pods in my 'fuge when it's set up too, hoping they go through the sump to the main tank. I'm watching the chems and have no problems doing water changes when the need arises :) After all, this...

    30g Reef after 1 week

my LFS has looked at my water and they agree that it's fine for livestock now. There was a brief cycle, the LR was fully cured when I bought it, there was no trace of ammonia at any time, and the nitrates are within safe levels...I'll be doing a partial water change here in the next few days too.

    Refugium siphon to sump?

okay. Ebay too for a glass drill bit? Probably 1" for that as well, and then I'm lookin at doing the plumbers putty w/water while drilling, eh? Tank is approx 12" tall, so maybe 6" high for the bulkhead?

    Refugium siphon to sump?

well, I've got the 10 gal tank now. I'm not sure I want to drill it but my thing is, I want to maximize my 'fuge, so having a separate sump seems like only the best idea for me. What about something like this ? I'm thinking I'd have to drill out maybe 3/4", but no idea where I'd get a bulkhead...

    Refugium siphon to sump?

the 10g is a glass tank. I was going to do a rubbermaid of some sort for the sump. better suggestion? I'm wary of drilling the glass.......otherwise I'd do a direct pipe to the sump. oh, and is there a specific silicone sealant I need to use? Or can I use just about any bath type silicone...

    Refugium siphon to sump?

I've attached a paint drawing to explain better what I intend to do. I've got a 10gal tank, I'll have the intake from the tank go thru some activated carbon and maybe some filtration element, then through baffles to the 'fuge. My question is, since it's only a 10gal, I want to maximize the...

    Film on surface of water

I'll be setting up a fuge in the next couple of weeks but my buddy has a PH I can borrow, albeit a super powerful one. unfortunately, my current submersible filter doesn't have an intake as that skimmer utilizes.

    Film on surface of water

so I should get a powerhead then for now? I'm not sure I want to invest in a skimmer yet.

    Film on surface of water

My tank has been up for about a week. Ammonia and nitrite are at 0, nitrates are 10-20ppm, running submersible filter system, and I've got a strange like film on the surface of the water. Don't have a powerhead, and will be doing a fuge here in a couple of weeks. All levels look to be good...
