    Problems!

Wanted to update you guys, my algae bloom has not gone away and I am scraping the glass daily, my bubble coral died and it appears that my scoly has died but I do not no how to tell for certain, its a fleshy white color and its mouth is constantly open... What should I do?

    Problems!

I did not remove the substrate during the move and my ammonia is 0... I will do some water changes over the next few days to see if that helps. Before the move I was having some red algae film on the glass which prompted me to add a phosphate reactor and that seemed to help. But as I recall...

    Problems!

Okay guys I am having big problems here... Moved my tank downstairs this weekend. I eliminated my trickle filter and replaced with a 20g sump with sock. I also have a 10g refugium that overflows into the sump. Since my move my tank has developed a terrible algae bloom and a few of my corals...

    LR in sump...

I got my sump tank drilled today and I was going to end up with 3 7" areas one with lvr next with skimmer then a return section. I may end up upgrading my skimmer at somepoint so I was wondering if I should enlarge the skimmer area? If I do I would end up with something like 4" 13" 4" which...

    skimmer problems

Get a cup of ro/di water and microwave it for 30 seconds so that its pretty hot and stick the venturi into the cup. That will help to remove the salt creep. I do this one or two times a month just as a preventative maintenance.

    Opinions please!

I am guessing that the question was too ambiguous so tonight I got a little bit further with the design... I determined that the skimmer section needs to be 7" across to fit my equipment. So what I am thinking is... Water leaving the tank will enter an area that is filled with live rock...

Iwaki WMD 20rlxt External Water Pump <- this site shows 540@ 4' head. If that is the case I should be fine seeing as I have a 1" overflow right?

    Return line

Hmm I dunno, I read the badge on the pump and it says WMD-20rlxt-115 max flow 13.7 gpm I looked online and some sites say the wmd-20rlxt has 540 and others say 822. Some say 540 with 4' head loss. I wonder

    Refugium/Sump?

A sump is basically just a big basin of water which would house a return pump and a skimmer. A refugium is basically the same thing but contains benificial algae to remove nitrates. A lot of modern sumps are really a sump/refugium hybrid.

    Opinions please!

Okay guys I am removing my wet/dry trickle with bio balls all together. I am going to salvage my 10g refugium. I have two tanks that will be utilized under the cabinet. I am shooting for something close to melevs sump model f but maybe with a variation. The tank that will house my...

    Return line

The retrun line was reduced from 1" to 1/2" on the pump. The site you were looking at must have calculated based on head loss. I checked the pump and it says 13.7 gpm which would be 822 gph. I suppose I will have to remove the reducer and upsize the return line.

    Return line

captain, the wmd-20rxlt is rated for 822 gph before headloss, I have a 4' run to the return so I am sure it is pretty close, I am just concerned with the downsized return line, is that limiting my output?

    Return line

I have an iwaki wmd-20rlxt and I just noticed yesterday that the return line is only 1/2"... I have one 1" corner overflow so I Am guessing that this pump is undersized for my tank. I am in the process of building a sump so should I grab a mag 9.5 and use that instead of the iwaki? My return...

    The Super Duper Master plan

When I originally bought my setup I had a similar situation. I did the following.. siphoned the water out of the tank and into buckets and trash barrels. Dont overfill the trash cans or you wont be able to lift them. Put the live rock in the trash barrels and the fish. Break down everything...

Slowly moving towards a reef tank.

I think I am going to stick with what I have for now. I am in the process or removing the bio-balls and am going to replace them with live rock rubble. I figure that coupled with the 10 g refugium should keep my nitrates down. I am at 20 now and am going to do another water change mid week...
