    Cobalt Aquatics E-X-T Canister Filter

Well I'll be a guinea pig and test this filter. Just received it yesterday and installed today. Set it up on an existing 220g tank to seed the media. As many items you get today the instructions are slim so a beginner might have issues putting it together. No problem for me. Media that comes...

    Gradual 55 rebuild

Did you just get it? They can be tricky to buy as not all are stout enough to handle sudden changes. I usually had better luck when I bought a few together in groups of 3 or 4. After getting a couple of groups like that I suddenly found babies in the tank.

    Gradual 55 rebuild

Just FYI - I've bred angles in high ph water so they can adapt. I have a large tank full of angles with ph above 8.

    Cobalt Aquatics E-X-T Canister Filter

Has anybody tried these? Looks interesting in that the pump is separate from the canister. And the canister has a gasket and not a (leaky) o-ring. Fincasters Episode 25 Cobalt Aquatics Re-invents the Canister Filter - YouTube F&S has them on sale right now so I'm just wondering if anyone has...

Can I fit 2 cory cats and 6 more neon tetras?

Actually I found my fancy goldfish needed the warmer temps and did much better when I put a heater in their tank. That was advice I got from this forum years ago. The last one died when I accidentally unplugged the heater. For the OP I do agree with others the goldfish will contribute a lot to...

Driftwood . Where to buy it?

Keep in mind wood you collect will not sink until you get it waterlogged. I did this by keeping in a bucket with rocks for over a month. It still needed a rock or 2 once I placed in the tank. Then a lot of wood will darken the water for a year or 2 so you have to keep doing lot's of water...

The Old World with New World Debate Rages On

Me too. I put Mubas with angels. Very bad idea!

    Trying again

Of the group I had I only saw one that I assumed was the male since he turned the blue / striped color unlike the rest. A couple did pair up as I occasionally noticed fry hiding in the tank but I never did anything with them. He just seemed to get super aggressive after 2 years and killed off...

    Filters

Yes there are arrows that point to the proper alignment of the media baskets. If you go to Amazon and look at the reviews you will see the leaking has been a major issue with these filters for some time. Support was aware of it when I called. But mine are so old they aren't willing to do...

    Trying again

Thanks jhawk. That confirms what I've been reading elsewhere. I guess the commitment has to be complete as that could be a little on the expensive side... :ermm: Now have to look for a good stocking source that is affordable. Maybe an online source. Only have Petsmart in immediate area with...

    Trying again

My first attempt at African Cichlids went so-so. Stocked with Black and White Auratus from Pet Smart. I think I started with 6 in a 95 gal tank. I put in plenty of places to define territory with one large cave and a big piece of driftwood. All was well for a couple of years with a few...

Wow. That says a lot eh? I have 2 Marineland HOB's that leak as well. With the heater fiasco I guess we know what to stay away from....

    Filters

The gasket around the head unit and the body. Tried the plumbers silicon on the most recent leaky unit per Marineland support but no luck. Have taken it apart & cleaned several times but no luck. Every review I look at Amazon for every canister seems to have some eventual leak issue. :(

    Filters

Best filters that don't leak? I'm one of the lucky Marineland C series owners (3 of them) that do nothing but leak now. Looking for a replacement and it seems every brand has some sort of leak issue when looking a reviews on Amazon. Is there any canister that NEVER leaks? :ermm:

    Marineland canister filter leaking

This is around the head unit where it fits onto the base. There is one large gasket on the head unit that should be sealing this. It starts off working fine then starts leaking after a few hours.

    Marineland canister filter leaking

A lot of info in the Amazon customer reviews and it seemed new gaskets didn't usually help. Also it wasn't leaking until I took it apart and cleaned it. It leaked again on my first try with the plumbers silicon. This time I'm cleaning everything where the gasket fits and I'll try again.

    Marineland canister filter leaking

I purchased 3 C series Marineland canisters several years ago (2008 I think). They worked great for awhile but on down the road I would take them apart to clean them then they leaked like crazy. Tried a few things but moved on to other filters I had at the time. My last one in my living room...

Tell People The Truth About Bettas

To the OP: have some little cards printed with your contact info. Next time you see that happen, hand the parent your card and tell them you'll come rescue the fish once the kid gets bored and won't take care of the fish... ;) A smart parent will ask you more questions. A bad parent will call...

Any suggestions on what algae eater to put with my male betta 10g?

Actually the older ones started in a 10 gal, then moved to a 20 gal, then were in a 30 gal for a year. Just ended up in the 75 a few months ago. I do see as far as stocking a 10 gal with several otos would be a bio-load issue with other fish. Vegetable wafers? Can you taste the difference...

Any suggestions on what algae eater to put with my male betta 10g?

I used to have problems with Otos too. But I now have close to 20 between 2 planted 75 gal tanks, some a couple of years old. Key is to buy in bunches, usually 8-10 at a time. I might lose one or two but the rest are very happy and fun to watch. Slow acclimation was the other important step (I...

    i cant believe that!!!!

As others have said, depends on bio-load, filtration, and other parameters. Get a test kit and chart out water parameters before and after changes. You'll see a pattern that works best for your tank. Each tank may be different. Or you can do it the easy way and do 50% PWC each week... ;) Me...
