Thanks for the info!! I guess i was wondering are they harmless? I know the cyano is bad....just more wondering should i be getting rid of the other?

Just a note, the second red thingies are kind of hard....if you try to squeeze them some of them pop like they are air tight? So they aren't sludgy like an algae.

Today i rotated a piece of live rock in my tank and i found this growing on the underside of it.....It actually looks quite good :) I wouldn't mind if it started popping up all over the rock. Just curious to know what it is if anyone knows. Also i've been wondering what these pink things are...

Thanks for the info :) I think that's my problem, i'm not water changing enough. I've been testing my waters and the nitrate has been at practically 0 for almost a month now so i've sort of figured i didn't need to do the changing...i guess i was wrong. I will change 50% tonight when i get home...

Hi Ziggy, thanks for the response. In regards to the red algae, my waters are Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 PH 8.3 Nitrate 0/5 My tank is about 2 months old now. What other nutrients are you talking about? Is it something i can get a test kit for to work out what might be causing it?

Hey guys/gals. I got a few small pieces of live rock today from the LFS. When i took it out of the bag this ball dropped out. I have no idea what it is, so i put it in my tank as it looked pretty cool....and lo and behold, a few minutes later all these stringy tentacles start coming out of...

That's correct :) however, i've had the mantis shrimp in the tank with the crabs now for 5 days and he hasn't gone near them....I've got my new tank setup now anyways so the crabs will be going in the sump as soon as my chemistry is right.

Here is another pic i just tried to take of his underside.....difficult to photo because he is pretty small. This is the best i could get....i have to admit the little fins on the side look really nice :) Still can't tell if it's spears or clubs on his arms...

Thanks for your reply Fluff, i thought it may have been a mantis shrimp from the pics i scoured through, however the colouring was always very different on the pics i had seen.... I'll try and photo him tomorrow about the claws...this might seem stupid but he doesn't appear to have claws at the...

Thanks for the info, both crabs will be staying in my specimen tank until i get my new tank with sump in a few weeks. Lo and behold i got home this evening and all the lights were out so i decide to grab my torch and have a look...and who was sitting up in between my thermometer and the tank...

Ok so in relation to my other thread where i think something might be eating my Anemone...not 100% sure, i've decided to start pulling things out of my tank as i see them and put them in a specimen tank for now to try and ID them and see if my anemone improves.....or doesn't get any worse. Thanks for the help guys, you are right :) Now that i know what they are i can google for similar items and that confirms that you guys were right :) I think i need some stronger lighting for my tank to get the zoanthids to come out. Will know in a few days as i'm getting some good lights :)

I've got these in my tank....i'm thinking they might be aiptisia anemone. I hope not :) I've looked at alot of pics through google of aiptisia but they just don't seem to look aiptisia to me... Picture 1. These guys open up when the lights turn on and pretty much close when the lights go out...

Thanks Fluff :) There's another one in another hole on that same rock, much much smaller though. I'm kind of glad they are brittle's since my other one sort of died :) I had a brittle starfish infected rock!!! Thanks for your help.
