Disturbing fish death- please advise ASAP

Yes, I use tapwater. The water in our area is pretty good and I hadn't had trouble before. I use Prime every time I do a water change (I usually do all the aquariums at once) to control chlorine. I did an extra water change last week, meaning that without considering it I gave this aquarium...

Disturbing fish death- please advise ASAP

About twenty minutes ago I noticed my cat pawing at my aquarium*, and when I reached over to stop I saw that he was watching a flame firefish throwing itself violently around the tank. It seemed to be partially paralyzed or seizing up and was whipping its body around with all its strength. Every...

    14g biocube new to this

biocube false bottom I just got the 29g model, and I wondered the same thing. Unlike chamber #2, there doesn't appear to be any easy way to open chamber #1, which is the best place for heaters or skimmers. I ended up just slipping two butterknives between the slots and angling them, then...

    Goby bit my Chromis??

Killer goby I bought a juvenile chromis (black lined) earlier this week and this afternoon I found it dead in the goby's burrow area. When I tried to take it out of the tank, the motion of the water stirred the dead chromis and the goby popped up and nipped it again!

    Feeding Randall's Shrimp Goby/Tiger Shrimp

Thanks. It responded to garlic flavored shrimp pellets, and I think the pistol shrimp is eating the leftovers.

    Saltwater mystery fish?

That's it! Thanks. So I guess I can look forward to it being big, mean, ugly, and long lived. Never buy on impulse!

    Saltwater mystery fish?

I just got a very small yellow fish from a tank full of "Assorted Damsels". The other residents were blue damsels, yellow tailed blue damsels, three spot damsels, and black and white striped damsels. In another tank the same retailer also had Talbot's damsels, and a yellow bellied damsel. This...

    Feeding Randall's Shrimp Goby/Tiger Shrimp

update I did water changes to reduce the nitrate from about 9 to about 2 ppm, and I finally got him to eat a single pellet of "Formula One". I had to drop about a hundred of them in there before one floated close enough to him, and then I had to siphon them all back out. There must be an easier...

    Feeding Randall's Shrimp Goby/Tiger Shrimp

Hi. I just got a 29g Biocube intended for a Goby/Shrimp partnership (maybe some other fish and inverts later). It's a new tank using established sand, live rock, and some bioballs from a previous aquarium. Ammonia and Nitrite are effectively zero, and Nitrate is a bit under 10 ppm. They've been...

    Skimmer and Filter Upgrade Help

I have a 55g FOWLR system that I may someday upgrade to reef. I'm going to overhaul the filter and skimmer, and I need some advice. Right now I have a Fluval 205 with a modified spraybar, a Red Sea Prizm, and a Marineland 200 Biowheel. I also have an additional Maxijet 1200 for water...

WTB live rock/skimmer in North WV/South Pa

I'm interested in buying live rock and good quality base rock in the Morgantown, WV area. I am willing to travel up to Pittsburgh, down to Clarksburg, or to the parts of Maryland in the tri-state area. Depending on the size of the individual pieces and the quality of growth I would probably pay...

    flashing, itching blenny

I have a 3 inch lawnmower blenny in a 55 gallon tank with one other fish, a Clarke's anemonefish. An Elbii angelfish was with them, but died yesterday of (I think) bacterial and fungal infection. All water parameters are perfect(no ammonia, virtually no nitrites and very low nitrates) except pH...

    Elbii Angel Questions

thank you Thank you for your advice. . .I did two 25% water changes and the cloud has gone away. Either the pwc worked, or it just went away now that the angel is out of the dealer's tank.

    Elbii Angel Questions

I recently introduced an Elbii (Red-Striped) Angel to my 55q aquarium. The tabk is FOWLR with the possibility of some hardy inverts to be added later. Currently I have an adult algae blenny and a juvenile/sub-adult Clarke's clowfish. The new angelfish appears to be healthy and vibrant, and it...

PVC, brine shrimp, and fake rock

Hi. This post is about some ideas I had that I want someone to shoot down before I try them. 1.) Jawfish ant farms. Getting a couple lengths of PVC piping, coating them in aquarium sealant inside and out and rolling them around in the substrate. They'd become sandy tubes which could be almost...

    Plenum construction

I got some black and white "Indo-Pacific" aragonite live sand. This is better quality and a much finer grain than the coarse black sand I already had on hand. I was planning on mixing them, but then I thought this might be a good starting point for a jaubert type filter (they have different...

    Molly breeding

Floating plants I have some Mollies and Platies in my tank, and the Mollies love to eat baby Platies. I don't like the way artificial mesh nets and breeder boxes look but even with a lot of planted plants I was losing fry.I ended up buying lots (and lots) of plants and letting them just float...

Please approve of my proposed set-up

thanks You're right, it is a 305. The last time I set up a marine aquarium I was essentially told to let a yellow tailed damselfish swim around until the water tests leveled out. I didn't realize it was traumatic for the fish involved! Thanks for stopping me. I read a few other posts and most...

Please approve of my proposed set-up

This is my first attempt at an aquarium in 5-6 years and only the second attempt at a marine aquarium. The first attempt ended in disaster; so this time I'm determined to do things right. I have most of the stuff ready, but I want someone with experience to approve it before I set things up. I...
