    Yellow Tang missing tail

Hi all, I seem to have a problem with my yellow tang. My tank has been established for about 2 years and my yellow tang has been a part of it for nearly the entire duration. I noticed today that she is missing all her tail fin. All she has left is a stump. I think this happened in the last few...

    Squirting Bristle Worms

Hi All, I really need help here. Numerous bristle worms in my tank are standing up like king cobras preparing to strike. Then, all of a sudden they squirt a clod of orange creamy stuff into the water. I don't know how long this has been happening. As soon as I saw it today, I starting sucking...

    Oil on the surface

Hi all, I seem to develop this thick oil on the top of my water. Presently I have to mob it up with a paper towel in order to get rid of it. It very effectively blocks most of the light into the tank if I left it accumulate. I suspect something is wrong with my tank and that's why this problem...

What's the benefit if having live plants? Is there a benefit beyond the visual effect of having live plants vs plastic. How difficult is it to maintain live plants?

    Grey/Black slimey

Hi all, My tank is up and running, finally. I added my liverock a few months ago and life is proliferating in my tank. I have a lot of green and white stuff growing on my glass. It looks pretty cool fluttering in the current. However, I am also starting to notice grey/black stuff forming on...

    A little confused??

To start with, you need to decide what type of setup you want: reef, fish only with Live rock or fish only?

    Live Rock

My opinion is this: The critters that are in your rock that "eat" ammonia, obviously are well fed since there is so much of it. So, if you reduce the levels by doing a water change, you keep the ammonia level in a safe range, but you don't eliminate their food source. Drop the ammonia level...

new rock with feather dusters, coral and vegetation

I got 10 lbs of live rock from the lfs. One pice has 4 feather dusters on it. How do I care for these. It also has a tone of green grass stuff on it. I don't know how to care for this either. The other piece has two pieces of coral on it. Both are beginning to turn bone white. Are they...

    Peppermint Shrimp

Are there any requirements in terms of food type? That is, will that must be fed to the other fish so that the shrimp gets the vitamins it requires?

Please help.. Tank setup was a total Disaster....

As a tribute to the information you got here, I will say that I had the same problem and within a week, the same advice cleared up my tank. The water is now crystal clear... too bad there's nothing but sand, water and salt in my tank.

Dual Sump Design, Good Idea or Not?

I would be concerned about drilling a hole in slate. I think it will destroy the piece of slate. Have you tried this before?

My tank looks empty, some advice needed

The rule of thumb for live rock is 1-1.5 times the volume of the tank. Example, a 72g tank should have between 72-108lbs of live rock. Since you want to add base rock, I would suggest adding no more than 72 lbs (or as much as you can afford). You can always add more dry rock later. By only...

My tank looks empty, some advice needed

I agree, rock would make the difference. You may also want to think about adding bubbles (air stone). It might create some interest.

Reef or Saltwater-- what's the difference? & Seahorses

I would suggest having a larger tank too so that you have an established high quality water source to draw from. For example, you won't be able to have a skimmer in a 3g aquarium. It will definitely help to keep dissolved organics low. So, run this in the big tank and use the big tanks water...

R sumps neccesary in order to have a great reef tank?

It's a good way to "clean up" the look of thetank. You don't need to see some of the equipment. I don't use one.

    not cycled -- please help

If you add a bag of live sand, your ammonia will spike. Do not do this with livestock in the tank. Do you have any LR in the tank? If you have LR, then the levels will drop soon. With respect to feeding your clown, I wouldn't start feeding him every second day. I think you should continue...
