150gl new reef set up Substrate to use

I just read the article and hope all goes well with my fish. Roka has mentioned, in this thread, the raw shrimp as well. I went with the live sand so I could cycle with live fish with less chance of death. In my prior reef, a 55gl, I cycled with Damsels and none passed away. I guess I didn't...

    150gl lighing question pt 2

I don't want to say price point and convieniece isn't a factor, but I wasn't sure if the quality and depth of light would be better. Money is always a factor but the time frame from new bulb to replacement should be long enough a couple extra bucks will be ok. The ability to change bulbs and...

    150gl lighing question pt 2

Thanks again for all the response on my previous posts, but I have one more question.....For Now. My tank is 72" x 18" x 28". I will be going with a T5 Mounting System with HO and Led. Would it be better to use 2x36" or 1x72" Systems. The price will not be to much more or less either way...

I took a look and you have a great set up. What are your thoughts on the Nova Extreme T-5 Fixtures w/Lunar Lights and/or the HQI Metal Halid Compact FLuorescent with Lunar Lights. I am going to try to do an open top aquarium with hanging or low profile lighting fixtures. With the canopy what...

    150gl Reef Lighting Question

I have a 150gl (72x18x28) aquarium. As of now it is filled and I have only added the salt. Once I put in my substrate and base rock I will be looking to replace the lighting. The tank will house, when finished, Live Rock, Fish, Soft Corals, and SPS Corals. I want to start with the...

150gl new reef set up Substrate to use

Thanks for the info Roka. When you say unseasoned are you talking about the kind I would buy at my local groc. store to eat? If so do I just put it in the tank as is? Should I put in the base rock in as well at that time for the cycle?

Hello all and thanks in advance for the advice. I have just set up a 150gl tank on 9.14.01. As of today I have filled it and added my salt, no substrate or base yet. I am running a new Fluval FX5 for filtration and my lights are crap( will be going with MH). I am going for a Full Reef...
