Wait...is it a peanut worm?

Folks, anyone seen one of these before? It is anchored to the rock...is smooth, and can withdraw it's body in a really cool way, as though it is segmented. No appendages or protrusions on it at all, head is smooth and roundish.

A scrub and vacuum + 50% water change completed. I will test the water tommorow after it's all settled and let you guys know the results.

What could be a probable cause? I use R/O water from a local water store...and I don't have any critters in it at all? I've just come out the end of my cycle, but I dont' know why there are so many nitrates left in the water! This is the 3rd tank I've started and easily been the biggest...

What causes the phosphates and nitrates to spike at the end of a cycle?

I think I'll hve to scrub with the rocks in, and change out the water right away.

How come the nitrate test gives me zeroes? And yeah I think the cycle is done. Tank has been up for a couple months. I'll try and scrub what I can. Most of my rock is semi permanently attached.

I know. Ok so I need ammonia, nitrite and nitrates, alkalinity, PH, and a refractometer. Anything else? Oh and my protein skimmer broke tonight. FML.

Geez those brands of kits are expensive.

Should I see about getting a different nitrate test? Or just go with the Ammonia?

Ok, I re-did the test, carefully reading the instructions. Here is what I got. Basically the same as before: Is it possible my test kit isn't working? Also, the Ammonia looks cloudy, as if there is some solid matter forming. I can take pics of the instructions too, maybe they are printed wrong?

I'm following the tests as per the instructions. Let me go try again right now.
