DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

really not a bad idea at all. I'd rather use the return line to offer more circulation though...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

ok, i guess i should elaborate. I was thinking a 6' x 3' x 4'(height) tank. The inside dimensions being only slightly smaller due to size of 3/4" ply. I know it's big and iffy, but I have some theories. I certainly dont want to build something that is destined to fail. I also dont want to...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

well, i was thinking it's be .5" tempered. The viewing area would be about 5' x 3'. with 3 inches on either side for sealing. the braces would be 2"x6"s. So total glass would be 66" x 42". Too high?

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

i've actually read your thread extensively and believe that your setup is the closest to the one that I want. I've talked with you about in the other thread. On a diff forum anyway. Never saw the website. I'll cruise through it today. Thank you. btw, lemme ask you while i got you here, what...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

at the risk of sounding demanding, do you mind telling me what you would do if it was a SW? A SW setup will work just fine for a FW i believe. Or at least it would be adapted on the fly to support FW fish/plants. Like I said before though, i believe I'm getting the SW bug and this might turn...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

I dont know what a RR tank overflow is. I'll try to gewgle and inform myself. My overall goal is simplicity during the build. My overall goal for long term is to make sure as little waste sits on the flooring as possible. The more this waste gets blown out and sucked down to the sump, the...

Plumbing 180g FW to 65g sump

I try to never hijack a thread, but I'll offer some quick links just so you can get a quick idea. I immediately thought of a plywood tank in your situation and how easy it would be to remedy majority of your space problems and other obstacles you've had to overcome. Some of the links are on...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

hey thanks for the input ziggy! i still like the idea of the overflow being on the side, but what if I ditched the 2 little spillways and instead extended them the entire length of the top and bottom of the OF divider? that would allow for some good pulling. Not as good as the full back of...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

thanks for the reply and time you put into the graphic. i appreciate it I believe i have your point now. You think having the intake from the closed loop on the other side, away from the OF box and having the return pipes from the sump and CL on opposite sides will work best. I think you're...

Plumbing 180g FW to 65g sump

plywood tanks last for DECADES. Like 20+ years with no problems at all. Easy to design and change your designs in building. Easy to add plumbing later, etc. I imagine you've never really looked into plywood tank construction. If you're truly curious, do a few google searches. You'd be...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

btw, here's a pic of what i'm babbling about. it's done like i'm mentally challenged, but you should be able to get my idea. The circles on the back represent the intake (green) and output (red) of the closed loop and how i think would best move the current and get the debris off the bottom...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

never heard the term filter sock. i'll get ta googlin! Ty for the input. So you think the second idea is good? no need for baffles just to catch debris or anything? My idea is to put a nice closed loop in this system to move the water, as I do not want ANY plumbing, tubing or anything...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

So you think ditch the prefilter ideas? I dont really see how it would be hard to clean the prefilters. I was just thinking some sponges and screens and whatever else would fit that would help keep it clean. I drew up two plans, just to make sure I have your opinion correct. The top was...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

i'm excited to see you taking an interest in my cry for help Ziggy. thank you for that. I think I'm ditching the idea of the plumbing popping down through the bottom, and since i'm building the tank, i'll incorporate a built in overflow compartment out of site complete with a top and bottom...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

I've been through Garf before, when I was on this kick last time, but really, I'm still stumped on how to get my system overflowing and pumped back in in a way I described above. Anything think my plan fails, or is a good one, just in need of some new ideas?

Plumbing 180g FW to 65g sump

the tank is going to be plywood. I'm thinking in the 225 gal range. Although I love the look of deeper tanks, so if I could get the height to 40 inches (safely of course) then it'd be a considerably bigger gallon size. In the 270gal range i would imagine

Plumbing 180g FW to 65g sump

i'm interested in this project, as i'm trying to figure out a good overflow/sump system INSIDE a plywood tank I have planned. Any updates in the past few days? Now that it's working out for the most part, what would you do differently from the beginning? What would you recommend to someone who...

Just wanted to chime in. I read this entire thread. From page 1. Many of your posts, i reread. I appreciate someone like you who takes the time to document every aspect of a project, even one that goes terribly wrong several different ways. I'm planning a FW plywood aquarium in the 150+...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

there are tons of resources for designing, building and maintaining a plywood aquarium. There are lots of things to consider and incorporate into your designs, which I won't get into, but for instance, water weight bowing the plywood and glass out and how to remedy it. Google is your friend...
