Enticing new Lion and Snowflake to eat

snowflake is still doing great. We feed him krill and squid meat and he seems quite content. The antennata lion, however, is still just hanging out in the crevices. I bought some mollies, but they didn't last a day in the saltwater. Lion is still alive though, so he's getting by on...

Enticing new Lion and Snowflake to eat

Thanks for the responses. The snowflake has been eating very well. We've been giving him krill for now. I'll try the squid thing too. As for the lion (antennata), he just hangs around the caves all day long and only comes out at night. I tried goldfish when we first got him, but they...

    Adding Rock Questions

I have a bunch of reef rubble coming and it's pretty much just dry inert stuff (not live and mostly bleached). I'm going to convert my refugium from sand/chaetomorpha to rock only. I'll add the remaining rock to the DT. Do I need to cure the rock separately or just let it run its course in...

Enticing new Lion and Snowflake to eat

Recommendations for the best live food to get a new antennata lion and snowflake moray to start feeding? Just got them a couple days ago. They both seem quite healthy. I'm just trying to figure out exactly what they'd like to start on and how to administer it. For example, if I buy live adult...

    Heater broke???

I just had a stealth fail on me last week. Lucky I caught it at 84. At first I just thought it was the warmer weather, but the heater failed ON. Sad thing is these heaters were bought in November. That's not too reliable in my book.

    Clown + Duncan

We have 2 regular ocellaris clowns and 2 small black and white. I have a carpet anemone, had a bubble tip, and a toadstool mushroom coral that the clowns could have adopted but no. Recently, one of the black and white clowns took to the Duncan and has been making it home. I'm curious if it...

    Quick help. Power outage.

Well, I chickened out and ran the generator all night, hoping we'd get power back soon. When I went to town for supplies, one guy said he'd talked to someone from the electrical co-op and they said they didn't know when power would come back. I bought oil filters and good oil for the...

    clown fish with leather coral

My toadstool leather sheds skin every month or so and closes up for about a week during that process. Maybe it's not the clown at all?

    Quick help. Power outage.

Temps are no problem. Oxygen and flow (for the corals) is what I'm most worried about.

    Quick help. Power outage.

If anybody has experience, I'd appreciate the scoop. We just had tornadoes and high winds go through and power is out in the area. I'm on a small generator right now and shouldn't really run it continuously. I have a 120 gallon aquarium with 1 blue tang, 1 yellow tang, 4 clowns, 1 wrasse...

    Clown Fish Went Sky Diving

Same thing happened to my tiger watchman goby. Lost him for about a week and I thought he got run over by the BTA when he was in his little homemade cave. Wife found him perched on the floor on his pecs like he was out for a stroll except he was dry as a piece of whitebait. Doesn't say much...

Do I need a glass top on tank ?

I bought white plastic eggcrate in a 2' x 4' sheet, made for flourescent light fixtures, and cut it to fit. It cut nicely without cracking. They come in white, clear, metal, you name it. I kept the plumbing openings small, only big enough for the plumbing and cords, and if you are concerned...

    Best Blue Tang

Don't introduce ich and you won't have ich. If you're just getting started and have no inverts/corals, then your display tank is your quarantine tank. If one shows up with ich, then treat it (I recommend hyposalinity). If nothing shows in a month or more, then have at it with corals and inverts.

    Tang Troubles

    Sorry to hear that.

    OMG!!! I'm frustrated!!! Blenny MIA!

We lost our tiger watchman goby for about a week. He'd been relatively active and social, so it was a surprise that he wouldn't be visible for that long. On top of that, for a bottom feeder, I never expected that jumping and sump or carpet surfing would be an issue. After the week is done and...

how to feed a sea anemone

I feed mine silversides. I just stick a half of one (or so) onto their tentacles. If they cling and suck them up, then fine. If they let them drop, then the crabs get a bonus. My carpet takes everything he can get. My BTA (now pitched due to fight with powerhead) would only feed once in a...

    Disaster. Everything is Dead. Help.

85 doesn't sound that bad to me. Shallow reef areas hit that all the time in the real world. Granted 78 - 80 is probably more 'ideal', but I'm stumped why 85 would crash everything like that. Could it be that wherever you were reading 85 was just a cool spot and the core temps were a lot more?

Lost 3 fish in just over a week

I made an eggcrate top that only has enough open space for powerhead cords. There's very little vertical space between the eggcrate and overflow. In your case, if need be, you could custom cut a piece of eggcrate that fits in the overflow and make sure your lid (whatever type) covers all.

    My new setup.........

Also, if you get an elegance coral, I'd be curious as to how it does. I researched and got some strange info on them, like they want high nitrate muddy water, that arrivals these days are not doing well as compared to years past, etc. I saw one at a large pet store yesterday and would love to...

    Acanthastrea

I have two acanthastrea frags and absolutely love this type of coral. I was wondering if anybody knew if they will multiply from a frag and start spreading around the rock they are placed on?

    Best treatment for ick

FWIW, in my short experience, I had absolutely zero luck with garlic or "NO ICH". When I tried copper, I killed the tangs (clowns and flame angel were unaffected). I'd place all my chips on hyposalinity.

    Toadstool Leather

Yes. All told it was about 4 or 5 days of no tentacles until finally a few started poking through and pushing up the old skin. I kept a powerhead right on it so it would shed bit by bit and not shock the tank. It's all clear now and sticking his tentacles out proudly. Looks better than when...
