    Pennies in reef tank.

My 4 yr old baby sis, after spending the weekend at my house, decided it would be a good idea to throw a penny (I believe..I wasn't able to find any more) into my 90 gallon reef tank. I discovered it tonight while inspecting my tank. Do I have anything to be worried about?

    YES!!! Fishkeeper: 1, Damsel: zero

Yeah, I put sinking pellets, and some mysis shrimp in it.

    YES!!! Fishkeeper: 1, Damsel: zero

I just cut the top off of a 1liter bottle, cut an opening in the top, inverted the top, and put it back into the bottle. I used a ziptie to fasten the top to the bottle. I also put a rock in the bottle to keep it from floating around.

    YES!!! Fishkeeper: 1, Damsel: zero

I FIIIINally got my damsel out of my tank today after about 3 days with a homemade trap. This little terror of a fish has killed 2 firefish, a royal gramma, and 2 green chromis. I will now be able to add small fish! He is now sitting on my kitchen counter in a plastic coke bottle. I hated this...

    Soft coral feeding

I used to feed my palys and zoas when I was bored--it looked cool when they closed up over some food. I noticed that they grew a lot faster when I fed. I had some slight phosphate issues so I stopped feeding altogether, and they all still did just fine.

    Need a protein skimmer

Why are you putting the skimmer in the fuge? You'll skim out your pods and probably suck up some sand into your skimmer pump. I'd put it in a separate section before the fuge separated by a baffle.

    Aquascape

Hmm, yeah you have a hex I see--my last tank was a hex, it was a major pain to aquascape. Looks good, as long as you have good flow in and around the rocks, the corals you put on the rocks will obscure the rock anyway, like Mel said earlier.

    Aquascape

I just redid my aquascape again...you know, people say its one of the most enjoyable tasks in a tank--but i think its a PITA. It took me a long time to get it to where I'm halfway happy with it..basically i was looking for good flow, and good shelving for coral placement at different heights...

Not able to Fit Sump under Stand

Podman: What do you mean exactly that you weren't able to replace the support adequately? Where you not able to fit the brace back in?

duct tape were have you used it :)

None on my aquarium, but about a month ago, while at work, I experienced a wardrobe malfunction, and split my jeans in the seat. It was about an 8 inch tear. I grabbed some duct tape and taped my pants from inside--it was seamless. Worked great til i was able to get home.

Not able to Fit Sump under Stand

Question: How much load is distributed to the center of the stand? When I rig up the support beams, will the load be great enough (after removing center brace) to sag and transfer onto the support beams? If so, won't it be difficult to replace the center brace if all of the load is then put...

Not able to Fit Sump under Stand

My last aquarium sprung a leak, so i picked up a larger 90 gallon tank to replace it. I needed to have it set up right away, so I was not able to set up my sump. Now that i'm trying to build a sump--i can't fit anything larger than a 10 gallon tank through the aquarium stand's doors. Can I...

    What eats red slime algae?

It took me about 2 months to get rid of my cyano. Ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates were all zero. I scooped out the cyano every night, watched my phosphates, reduced my feedings, kept up with my PWC's, and dropped some phoszorb in my canister filter. Weeks went by with no change--phosphate level...

    argh..diatoms.

Negative, all my water is RO/DI'ed water from LFS. I've tested this water and I've always used this when performing pwc's and top offs.
  18. MistaSparkL

    argh..diatoms.

Yeah, I figured as much, I"ll just keep up w/ my regular maintenance, and wait it out.

    argh..diatoms.

Since my upgrade from a 65 to 90 gallon tank, and the addition of 30lbs LR, I'm starting to experience a diatom bloom. I haven't seen that in a while..hopefully they go away soon. I'm guessing the tank is going through a little cycle, I'm wondering if I should keep up with the PWC's (I've...

    My aquarium is done for.

Yeah, i'm really happy with the intensity of the 10k's, but they're a bit yellow for my tastes, I think i'm going to swap them out for 14k's for a crisper look.

    My aquarium is done for.

Got my lighting system for my new aquarium today--it is freaking sweet, but ridiculously bright. It lights up my whole living room. I picked up a 48" Current USA Outer orbit system. 2x250 watt metal halides, 4x54 actinic t5's, plus moonlights.

Brand of MH lighting--does it matter?

Ugh, figured as much, but not what I was hoping to hear. Guess I'll have to shell out the thousand bucks for the 48" Current USA model for my new tank. I have a Current USA fixture for my old hex, and it works great and reliably. Thanks

Brand of MH lighting--does it matter?

I'm looking for a light setup for my new 90 gallon tank. I've found this on ebay: 48" 4ft Metal Halide Aquarium Reef Light 716W T5 T-5 HO - eBay (item 120415565491 end time May-13-09 19:34:07 PDT) Its 2-3 times cheaper than the coralife, current usa models. Anyone ever heard of ADV+ lights? I...

    My aquarium is done for.

Yeah--the hex looked cool in the corner it was occupying, but it was such a pain to maintain. I had to get up on a ladder and still wasn't able to reach the bottom of the sandbed. It was also difficult to mount my hardware, etc.

    My aquarium is done for.

Yeah, I'm just glad it didn't soak my carpet, I caught it way early--right after it started to squirt a stream of water 6 feet from the one of the tank seams. I went to go pick up 30 extra lbs of LR, and i'm currently aquascaping the tank--I'm still waiting on my lights.
