Water Kh ? It's too high

No - we were not and the tank just cycled. So - I did change today - and all the levels are normal with KH at 12 - so I think with weekly water changes this will even it out I guess we should then wait a week - possibly two before we get coral and I think another touch of live rock that's...

Water Kh ? It's too high

What would the Superbuffer-dKH do? Would this make the PH Normal and keep the KH in check? We have a KH of 13 right now in a new tank. Why am I asking? I just did a water change and hopefully it will lower. But the LFS said to use the Superbuffer-dKH and I think i used a little too much in our...

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Update - cuprisorb took out the copper - we've added live rock 4 days ago and could our cycle be over already - the live rock was cured and yesterday we saw the nitrates spike a bit then come down. We did use an entire thing of Bio-Spira prior to adding live rock. Not sure what I'm looking...

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Okay - update. We got our live rock today - and already I can see little critters - floral looking things on the rocks - so cool. We have at least 3-4 good places for coral/other stuff. Also the readings in our tank have all normalized prior to adding the live rock, and the cuprisorb removed...

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Okay - all levels are back to normal - what about the PH being 7.8-8.0? Should this come up a little after we get live rock? Or is that the PH of the water? Date: 11/30/08 Temp: 77 pH: 8 Ammonia: 0 Nitrate: 0 Nitrite: 0 Magnesium: n/t GH: n/t KH: n/t Salinity: 1.024 Alkalinity: n/t Calcium...

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Just picked up 2.5 gallons of RO/DI water. I'm going to use this to top off over the next few days as my salt is in the 1.026 range. If things don't work out by Wed - then I'll dump - and buy water and new live sand. This will get rid of having to use any of the stuff. Thanks - as always being...

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Roger that. I'm going to see if this works by WED. And if not - start over. But right now I've already done the cuprisorb and see if that fixes the water.

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

That's great advice. Thanks for this - I really don't want to get into an entire RO/DI setup. Yep - once I get the water straight in the tank I have now - then I'll do this after the cycle. The live sand and stuff is cycling now - I didn't believe it - but it is.

And so it's a new tank - will the Cuprisorb and Poly Filter do the trick before we add live rock - etc? They said once the levels are gone - we'll be set to move forward. We want coral - etc. and we know the snails and other creatures won't live with the copper.

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

This a new tank - so we've only used the tap water with this first fill. After this I will use only RO/DO water.

Remove Copper - New Biocube 14 Gallon

We used tap water to fill our BioCube 14 gallon. Currently we have 10lbs of live sand - and that's about it. We are using a Poly Filter along with the Carbon Filter. We just got back from our LFS and there's trace amounts of copper - most likely from our tap water. We are using Cuprisorb to...

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Also - we added the Bio-Spira today to get things going on the LFS advice. So far we have Salt Water, Live Sand, two filters, a heater, Top Coat dechlorinator, and the CupriSorb to get rid of copper.

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

Okay - so we just got back from our LFS - and all of our water readings sans ammonia being a bit high as the tank is cycling - are good - except for copper. Our copper levels from using our tap water are too hight, so we have cuprisorb and The Bag to remove the copper. Bummer - we were hoping...

    Hey all!

Nope. Great stuff. So after we get out live rock and we're sure the cycle is complete - then we get the cleaning crew. One question for clarification - you purchase the coral and then you would actually use super glue and then place it in the tank? Sounds crazy.

14 Gallon BioCube - Nano Reef

We purchased a 14 gallon Biocube this past Friday. So far we've filled it with water and 10lbs of Live Sand. We used Top Coat to de-chlorinate the water, and the salt mixture is at 1.022 to 1.024. We are going to get some live rock this week and take a sample from our current tank water and tap...

    Hey all!

Yeah - I know on the ugly part. I think I will be able to convince her once we pick out some live rock. You can't see through the back of the BioCube 14 gallon - so leaning there is a probably a good idea. One total newbie question - we get the live rock and in the store we'll be able to...

    Hey all!

I'm going to get Live Rock from Tropical Isle - Framingham, MA - they said to come back this week - Katy is her name on Wed - yeah - I thought something might happen with Live Sand. It should be cured to the best of my knowledge - the big thing is they wanted to test my water as I used tap...

    Hey all!

Day 2 and we did tests this morning - so far everything is good. Salt is 1.022 Temp 77-78 PH 8.0-8.2 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 0 Nitrite 0 Do I need to measure KH? So far the only thing in the tank is Water and Live sand of 10lbs in bottom of the 14 gallon biocube. How long do we wait and measure...

    Hey all!

Thanks for the tips. We did use tap water as our 5 year old couldn't stand the wait. We used a dechlorinator - Top Coat and mixed that in this morning. We just added in the salt slowly mixing in tank. I know not the best - but given our setup in the room where we have it - it was easiest. The...

    Hey all!

We are planning on without rock until we can take water back next week to our fish store - Tropical Isle. They will test the tank and the water from our tap to tell us what's going on. We have a kit too - and also some additional filter material to put into the back left area on the Biocube to...

    Hey all!

Totally new - we purchased a 14 gallon biocube for a project with the kids and also a lifelong interest. We've been reading and researching for 3+ months and decided to jump in. This weekend is setting everything up - adding some live sand and mixing the water - then we'll let things cycle out...
