    Aptasia?

Well, whatever it was, I don't have to worry about trying to identify it anymore since the crab (looks like a gorilla crab) made a good meal out of it. So I obviously have to get that crab out of there before putting anything in the tank... Thanks all.

    Aptasia?

Thanks. I don't have a refugium. Even if I did, I don't think I could get the crab--except perhaps by taking the lr out and trying to shake him out (and I doubt even that would work). He's quick and dives into the holes that go into the rock!

    Aptasia?

It has not moved in the past couple weeks as far as I can tell.

    Aptasia?

Here are a couple things that came on/out of the lr I got. Is the first aptasia? It extends out into the water slightly and, depending upon changes in light or things moving by, it instantly can shrink/pull its arms back in. The other is some sort of crab (finger nail sized). Came back from work...

    Fish died week after setup!

Sorry--should have been clearer. I did the first test a week after setting up the tank. The ammonia and nitrite readings were 0 and have never gone up. Nitrates have been about 20 and may have increased slightly. If it has, in fact cycled (or didn't need to b/c of the lr), then I should be...

    Fish died week after setup!

So as I mentioned a week or so ago, the 2 fish I had died. Instead of dropping in a shrimp as suggested here, I let the dead fish remain. 3 days later they disappeared! I noticed some of the sand had shifted and saw a thumbnail-sized crab that must have come w/the live rock. Not sure if the fish...

    Fish died week after setup!

I have a 20 gallon hex tank. I set it up a little more than a week ago with live sand. A couple days later (now exactly one week ago) I got two fish (yellow-tailed damsels I think) that the fish store characterized as starter fish good for cycling the tank. Also added about 20 lbs of live rock...

Filtration for a 35 gal hex

I have a 35 gallon hexagonal tank that I want to use to make a reef tank. (Looks exactly like this one: www.vibrantsea.com/systems2.php?sysID=2). Initially was expecting just fish w/live rock and the fish store set me up with live sand and a Marineland Emperor Bio-Wheel filter. Now thinking that...
