Can the Large CLaw crab (not sure exact name) be kept in an aquarium where it cannot reach the surface? or must they be able to get out of the water. Also, are there any crabs entirely aquatic?

Currently cycling my tank fishless way. Filled the tank on sunday and added the pure ammonia. Now I know its still too early for me to see anything yet, My question is though can there be too much ammonia that Trites wont appear?

A larger tank will help the most. Or at least lose the divider and maybe leave him in the one he is in for now alone? But start looking locally for a new tank. They are everywhere

In the past when i have had frogs in, I have never had any issues with a HOB filter. The frogs stay away and never seemed to have a problem swiming to the surface for air.

Possible. However I bought about 6 plants from the lfs. Maybe I will get lucky and some good bacteria hitched a ride home on them :D

I am currently just starting a fishless cycle on a new 55g I got. Started the cycle on sunday. Today I went to a LFS and asked for any sort of filter media to help seed it. No such luck said they had none to give. Tried 2 petsmart's after that, they replied they threw it all out already......ARE...

Bacteria are in the water just not "active" per se. I would get the media from a tank if you can may save your fish you have in there now.

Craigslist.com is my next favorite site after google. Amazing the things the interent has opened doors too.

Any freshwater crabs that do not need to get out of the water? all the Big claw ones i like and see at petsmart seem to need to get on land as well.

So testes this morning 2/24/09 and got .25ppm tirites.... Was very excited to see something.... checked ammonia and its still at 5.0ppm.... what should i expect now?

Well im not an expert but they will ask your water quality? Ph? Ammonia? Nitrate? Nitrite? all that good stuff.... start now by raising temp to about 83-84

Well before long you will have a lot more then 2 snails.... but they wont harm anything. I think they are neat to look at.

You could very carefully and outside..... break the lightblubs and break away excess glass.... then use a pair of pliers or vice grips and get out the metal connection points on the end of the bulbs.... just be careful not to breath anything in from the bulbs....thats some nasty stuff in there.
