If you have not already, check out KYreef.com and/or lmas.org. They are local KY SW clubs that might be able to help you out as well.

    Water softner ok to use????

I use a softner as well. I have read that it can prolong the life of the RO membrane but not really sure. It does no harm and is good for washing the cars.

    Lighting Question

I think it would depend on the animals you want to keep. I ran 2 250w MH on my 75 when it was up. I kept anything I wanted. The 150's would work but might not get you the penetration all the way down. Would work though. Are you wanting clams or acros? If you want to keep softies or LPS...

Louisville Marine Aquarium Society Frag Swap

Hi all, Just wanted to post a little blurb here about our 2nd annual Frag Swap to be held Nov.1 at the Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville, IN. This is a hobbiest swap only. No vendors or speakers, just hobbiest trading and socializing. There will great assortment of corals and some...

Q: What would you do??????? WWYD ?

I have used PC bulbs for 5+ years and never had any problems. Most LPS will not be a problem. Best LPS growth I ever had was a 4x55 PC setup on a 75 gal tank. I use halides on my 180 with SPS and clams but my frag tank uses PCs. Nothing against T5's but PC's work fine.

Please explain the unexplainable (at least for me).

A sailfin and a yellow are in the same family and probably should not reside in the same tank. Not saying they can't but they will most likely fight. I have a 180 and I have been hesitant to add a yellow in with my sailfin. The sailfin does great with the yellow eye kole though. Stress can...

    new tank is very cloudy

If it is new sand, a power filter or canister filter will help but you don't want corals in there. New sand normally means new tank and that means no corals. If the tank is mature and cloudy, you have a different issue. Post up some info on your setup please.

i hate to sound dumb but...

Water changes might help the crabs and snails have a chance to live but it will prolong the cycle. If the Rock was cured and live, you might be in decent shape as well.

    R/O before or after softener?

I had read that the soft water is actually good on the membrane and helps extend the life of it. I added a softener about 3 months ago so I have no real world experience though.

How to get rid of xenia

I sort of agree as I have this stuff growing every where in my frag tank. I do pay for all of my supplies with xenia money though. At least anything the LFS has :)

How to get rid of xenia

cut it off as close as you can and then take some epoxy and cover up whats left. This might work but that stuff is very resilient!

    Aquacontroller Jr

Is anyone using an AC jr, AC III or a Reefkeeper II? I am considering getting one and really wondered if people thought there were worth it? Tell me about your setup and what you do with the controller please :) Thanks

    MH bulbs

I am a big fan of Reeflux bulbs. I used the 12k's for a yr and had decent growth but Sanjays tests showed them to be on the low side of ppfd scale. The Iwaskis 6500's (175w)and the XM 10k's(250W) are supposed to be the PAR monsters for their wattage. The Reeflux is a bit lower but I like the...

    styrofoam under the tank?

I have a piece of 1/2 pink board under my 180 and under my 100 gal prop tank. The insulation board sits a 3/4" plywood too though. Not sure it does anything but I heard it could help so I added it :) Definitely does not hurt

I use Oceanic. I have been pretty happy with the results and use it for the Ca/Alk numbers. RS Coral pro was good too.

    Lighting question

The watts per gal rule is a pretty loose representation. I am not real familiar with T5's but from what I have read is that the individual reflectors do make a difference. See what other people keep with that fixture and don't beat yourself up over the watts per gallon. Sorry I can't help more.
