Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

That's correct, although according to information I have found all over the internet, he does best in 72-78 degree water. The fish store I bought it from keeps their water at 72 and I keep my tank at 76. He has been in there for a couple weeks and seems to be doing fine. He's eating great and...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

I have to tell you... I've been using this 95 gallon aquarium for a little while now and things are going great! I currently have two clown fish, a small (about 1.5 inch) blue tang, a large (5-6 inch) naso tang, a cardinal fish, a firefish, a baby (about .5 inches) dwarf lionfish and... my...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

This may be one of those things you want to add to your cycling article... Get a test kit, use raw shrimp, check ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, be darn sure you're not using a lowes check valve, add your fish... :)

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

Well... for anyone who may be interested, I found the solution to all of my troubles. About a month ago, I went out to get a new tank since I finally decided there had to be something wrong with my 55 gallon. I opted for a 95 gallon wave (bigger tank to help ease anything i may mess up). I got...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

Haha... wish I had looked at this earlier. The shrimp ended up stinking up my hallway... badly. I took them out and changed half the water to get rid of the horrible smell. The bubble anemone died yesterday. It looked like it was going for a while... kept planting its mouth in the sand, then...

Almost forgot! The cement I used is LO-V.O.C ABS cement and the pipes are Charlotte Pipe (Cast Iron, PVC, ABS, and CPVC pipe and fittings for plumbing and industrial systems) DWV pipe. They say on their website that this is non-toxic and suitable for drinking (ABS and PVC DWV Pipe and Fittings).

pH is between 8.2-8.4 (thats as specific as the test kit gets). The sand is just there for decoration, but I figured I'd put that in and check that as my first variable. I'm almost positive it's not the water since it's coming from and RO/DI and the TDS measures 0 so I figure if I put the fish...

Still not much better... I still have the same fish that seem to be doing ok (two blue damsels and a cardinal), but now whatever was killing the fish seems to have moved onto he anemones. The bubble anemone seems to have fallen off his rock and dropped face first into the sand where he has...

I understand that there are thousands of things other than what I have tests for... but the problem is, I have no idea how to test those things. Like, for instance, how would one go about testing the level of oxygen in the water?

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

I used tank water for the sick fish. I didn't want him to have the stress of acclimating to new water on top of everything else so I figured the old water may be whats best, even though he got sick in that to begin with. As of this morning, his breathing has slowed down just a hair, but it's...

Thank you all for the good advice. You may be right about adding the fish too fast... I'm just so use to fresh water... I could add five at a time, do daily water changed for a week or two to keep ammonia down, and everyone would be perfectly fine without the slightest problem. Just as an...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

All of the rock is fiji live rock, tonga rock, or marshall islands rock. I did a pretty good inspection of everything before it went in and didn't come across anything suspicious. Maybe I could take the LR out and put it in a bath of RO/DI water, let it sit there for a few days, then take a TDS...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

By the way, here are some pictures of the tank as it stands right now... there are some very colorful algaes growing on the live rock and the invertebrates all seem happy, it's just the fish I'm having problems with... Cardinal hiding in his corner in the back of the tank (bottom right of...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

I talked to the fish store... they say there are no chemicals in their water. I took the liberty of testing the water in their bag with one of my test kits, and the ammonia was 0, nitrite was 0, nitrates were 0, and pH was 8.3-8.4... all of these values are the same as my tank. As an update...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

P.S. I know that Petco isn't exactly the greatest place to get fish from as they probably don't tend to take care of their fish as well as they should, but it's a second source that I tried out and it was unsuccessful...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

It's the API test kits. I got a master test kit from Petco... there wasn't the slightest bit of dust on the carton and I know they don't go around dusting their stock, so I'm assuming it was fairly new. I got an ammonia only test kit from my LFS to confirm the 0 ammonia reading. Half the fish I...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

Thats exactly what I was thinking... I wasn't exaggerating the checking every day or any of that. The ammonia level never rose and if it did, it had to go up and back to 0 within 24 hours tops. I had another three stripe damsel die today and i'm just really at a loss as to whats going on. Sure...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

Let me be a little more specific about my future plans (I probably should have included this in my original post). I have every intention of adding a 135 gallon aquarium to my collection in about 2 years. At that time, the larger fish (mainly the domino and three striped damsels) will be moved...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

I'm at capacity with 6 small fish in a 55 gallon tank? I think you may have read incorrectly and think that my 10 gallon sump is the main tank? I already tried giving my LFS a call and they don't want to take them back now since the two I have left from there have spent more than a couple weeks...

Wow... that article on fishless cycling made me feel pretty bad. You're right, I didn't do that. I was trying to start the cycle with the fish. I currently have 2 freshwater aquariums, both of which have been running for years and they still look great. I started both of these aquariums by...

Fish Dying in New Aquarium... Hopefully not the everyday stupid questions

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this site... I came across is while doing several google searches on my dying fish. Google kept sending me back to the same site over and over so I started to get the hint that this is the place to be :) First of all, let me point out that hopefully I'm not the...
