    Aquaplus Conditioner

I have heard a lot of complaints that aquaplus will do this obviously some other water conditions will apply but i think switching will hopefully cover it. People keep returning it to the store with complaints, a shame since haegens products are usually not bad... over priced... but not bad.

I'll be taking pics of the whole set up and I'll start a log in a few weeks! The live rock will be good and seeded though as it will be coming out of our tanks at the store anyway. That is assuming I can cycle with LR in the tank?

I have neither yet. I haven't looked into pricing/availability at my store yet so I have not decided which I will purchase. A week from this friday I get paid and goto my store to get some kind of substrate, Maybe five-ten pounds of LR. A refractometer or hyrdromter and salt. I'm also gonna...

    Salty Conversion

Ah Thanks! I gotta learn a whole new set of abbreviations and acronyms now! For the RO water. Should I use only RO water to set up the tank as well as for PWC's? Also, It is safe to do a fishless cycle with the LR? And do I need a new test kit?

When you say a ph what do you mean exactly? Just test for ph? What is my desired ph anyway or like most freshwater will I likely be able to adapt anything. And as far as my supplies like LR and "live sand" goes I get it dirt cheap because I work at a petstore so might as well give it a shot lol...

    Salty Conversion

Gotcha. I was aware of this because of my freshwater experiences I just wasn't sure what the difference was from fresh to salt. I see your point about the clown not even being guaranteed to pair with the anemone. Are there any lower light options for anemones that are also clown compatable? I...

I have heard small tanks can be tricky. But I don't know whats tricky about them. I only have experience with fresh so any requirements of a salt talk are a bit foreign to me. What will have I have to keep up? What parameters will I now have to monitor besides salt levels? Newb questions i'm...

What I have: 40watt 20/20 light. 20g Aquaclear HOB filter. 20g Stealth Heater. 10g Tank. What do I need? I'm thinking a FOWLR rock setup. I would like to do a small clown fish with some live rock and maybe a sea anemone or something. Any suggestions on what clown or if there is one small...

    Lionfish Sting

So I work at a LFS and my knowledge of salt is limited as my experience resides with freshwater. We have a small saltwater section with most of the basics... live rock, damsels, clowns... ect. I began cleaning the lionfish tank today (with care) and was distracted by a customer for about five...

    Test Results... Help?

All of our tanks are above 85 degrees, including the tank with black skirt tetras and they do very well. As long as you raise it gradually your fish can adapt. Salt helps with the healing process some, but does not help get rid of the ich per se. No matter how low you keep the toxins in your...

Need help with mean oscar! PLEASE HELP!!

I have found Hikari is a very good brand. These pellets along with others like them are designed to give optimal nutrition without supliment. Feeders of any kind especially goldfish are really not recomended. They are the breeding grounds for disease and as mentioned above not particularly...

Their aggression tends to increase when they reach sexual maturity. I can't remember if this is correct or not but I think its around 8 months? Not positive on that part though.

    Tampa Area Fish Stores

Hello all, I live in the Tampa Fl area and was wondering what your opinions were on some Fish store in the area? I have had a few bad experiences and a few good and some in between and was wondering what you recommend? Also, if you in the area check out Petland on Watersj(I work there), I know...

    Pointless Fish Rants

While my experience is limited to one franchise and one perspective, I would have to disagree. For instance fish tanks cost me more if I attempt use my employee discount (because it is cost to the store plus 10%) the same goes for Dog food. On the other hand, fish I get for pennies on the dollar...

Need help with mean oscar! PLEASE HELP!!

Not usually recommended as much either with south american cichlids as opposed to african cichlids. Because most of the SA need more space in general. Even if you do this with either though it still means no body has a much space as they need. As michaelslilgray has pointed out each oscar truly...

Lighting Cycle Poll - What time does your light come on?

Another Idea I recently got from a random aquarium plant book was to have a "siesta period" My tank comes on in the morning from about 9-2 then from 2-4 its off and then back on from 4-9. The growth rate of the plants hasn't seemed to change but the algae seems to have lessened significantly and...

    Why wouldn't I mix them?

I'll look into this further. I work at a Pet store. The owner of our pet store was able to fund her franchise with money she recieved from owning a fish farm in florida where I live. I'll ask about it the next time her husband is around as now I am curious. Your points on eating requirements...

    Why wouldn't I mix them?

I was pondering something today and was wondering what your input is... Generally as a rule of thumb, people don't mix african and south american cichlids. I just sort of accepted this at first. But then I got to thinking... Why? I thought maybe different water requirements such as hardness and...

well it happened... MTS... a few questions on a new tank setup and ram cichlids

-You can mix GBRs, Bolivian Rams, Gold Rams etc... -They do have more personality. They are cichlids after all. They will learn to recognize you, get excited when you come home etc... -A 33 gallon long is not large enough to house 8 IMO. As mentioned above, they are cichlids and therefore...

    electric blue jack demsey

This is the information I was mostly concerned about when writing this post. I can get them much cheaper than retail (like 20 bucks I think) but I still don't wanna wasted that money either. If they are going to be more sensitive to climate changes or unable to defend themselves against an oscar...

    electric blue jack demsey

Right now I have an established 55 gallon aquarium with a 4" long-finned albino oscar. I am upgrading soon to a 90 gallon tank. I was thinking I might add an electric blue jack dempsey. I was wondering if you all had any information on them. Are they the same as regular jacks or do they...
