    Strange readings and results

carbon (chemipure) is only about a month old. I run it in a HOB Aquaclear 110. BTW its a 45g tank. I was hesitant about replacing the foam because I always figured it would be a good place for beneficial bacteria to breed. Now that I'm thinking about it, i'm not sure if wringing it out in...

    Strange readings and results

I have foam and ceramic rings that I clean about once a month in the old water. Maybe I should try twice a month!

    Strange readings and results

I do use tap water but I've tested phosphates, ph, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate on my tap water and they all read 0. ..except ph!! ;) My test kits are all less than a year old. I can try taking a sample to my LFS but I'm pretty confident in the readings.

    Strange readings and results

Hey guys its been a while since i've posted but i have an unusual thing going on and i wanted some input. I had my new tank set up for about 6 months when I moved. It's now been about 3 months since the move. My nitrate used to be at 0 before the move. A week after the move, it spiked to...

    mushroom coral

Take a needle and fishing line...pierce the base and tie it to a small piece of rubble. The fishing line seems to grow out in a couple weeks and the 'schroom' is attached. Mushrooms are WAY more resiliant than you think!!

It Takes Two Tangs to Tango!!

I was afraid I'd hear these responses!! I take these creatures health and happiness very seriously. That is why I research as much as I can before I go out and buy something. That being said, what types of fish would have similar bodyshapes or colors and stay small enough to thrive in a 47g...

It Takes Two Tangs to Tango!!

Hey guys. I've had my 47g set up for about 5 months now and haven't done much with it. I have a bunch of live rock and the Xenia, small leather coral, and mushrooms that came on the rock. I currently have 2 green chromis all alone in there. I would like to add a blue hepatus tang and a...

How do I position these stupid things?

pointing them up and agitating the water seems to work for me. I think the ripples all over the surface help aid gas exchange...also helps add a little shimmering effect when you don't have MH lights!!

    coral i.d please

I had a purple/red/green one that with help from here, I think is a Rhodactis. Look it up and see if it's the one!!

O where O where have all the bacteria gone??

I have been pondering a thought for a while now and want to see if anyone has an answer!! Does the majority of bacteria live in the LR or in the DSB?? I know the aerobic and anaerobic bacteria live in their respective place. Expressed in percentages though, how much of the bacteria is in the...

    Absolute Minimal Salt Water Aquarium

DON'T WASH TEH SAND!! If you wash the sand, you'll kill any bacteria that remained alive through the storage and shipping process. The only way I'd wash sand is with water from an established tank which probably isn't available to you!! I didn't buy live sand, just plain 'ol aragonite, and I...

    Missing Diamond Goby!!

Last night I couldn't stand it anymore...not knowing! I pulled all the LR and checked under it to see what I could find. I found at least two 6" bristle worms but no signs of a body. My tank looks like a typhoon hit!! That's ok though because I'm moving next week (finally) and will be...

    Zombie crab

I think what Roka and Melosu mean is that you picked up the discarded exo-skeleton and the crab that dame out of it is hiding!! ...I just noticed that this thread is kinda old so I don't know if this matters or not!!

    maroon mushrooms

I think a better question would be how do I get rid of a mushroom!! You can just scrape them off of the rock, cut them into quarters, or halves, they have ALWAYS quickly grown back into fully shaped 'schrooms. I even heard of throwing a couple in a blender with tank water and pouring the soup...

    Missing Diamond Goby!!

I looked for 10 minutes yesterfay to no avail. No overflows, glass cover, but lots of hiding spots!! Let's cross our fingers!!

    Missing Diamond Goby!!

I've had my Diamond Goby for about 3 months now. He settled in immediately and ate the flakes and brine shrimp like a champ. He appeared to happily chomp away at the sand...sifting through it all day long! Suddenly he's nowhere to be found. Even if he was hiding, he would always show up at...

Is there "phosphate" in "egg crate" grates?

Leroy and Sally don't have a problem with them at GARF. On the other hand I still opted for no plenum...so, take it as you will!!

Time to buy MY first fish!

I've heard a foxface gives a pretty painful sting just like a hornet sting reaction in most people. Of course the tang can gash open a large wound with that barb....BOTH COOL CHOICES!! Just keep kids outta the tank!!

I wasn't asking for yours!! Just sayin' I like them!!

    Absolute Minimal Salt Water Aquarium

I started my 40g about 4 months ago. The tank is only a small piece of the money. The lights are the top money item and then the live rock. IMO, find a lighting system you like then buy the tank to fit it!!

    ID Please?

+1 on Stomatella Varia. I had one that rode in on my LR and now, 4 months later, I have about 8 of the little buggers. They seem to move fast and eat slow!! Very beneficial to my system!!
