    Coralife Power Center

I have one, it's ok, but I find myself picking up more individual timers to run my lights an fans. In hindsight, I don't think it was worth the $ for my setup. Evaluate your power needs first.

What type of board for the top of a DIY canopy?

I have a "half hex" 50g tank. I used 1 x 8 select pine. I started with 1 x 6 and ended up re-doing with the 8". I wanted the extra 1 1/2 clearance for my lights - and I'm using t5s. So double check your sizes before making your purchases. I used select pine for the top too, and glued them...

    Bubbles on live rock!

Is this a new setup? I just set mine up a short time ago and I found some of the algaes will create some bubbles. Especially the brown stuff (diatoms?). I'm sure I might get corrected, but I believe it's the algae photosynthesizing.

    Olive Snails

Thanks Roka, those are the ones. The owner of one of the LFS suggested them. They've done an awesome job of cleaning/mixing the sand up. Since I'm a newb here, should I keep them or try to trade them in for something else that'll keep the sand mixed? I've seen cerith snails are good for...

    phosfluorescence mystery

I have a tank 5 weeks old, when my blue leds come on at night, I can see a couple of things phosfluorescencing on 1 particular rock. When the lights are off, nothing, only under the blue leds does it do this. When lit, they're tiny, about 3-4 mm long and reddish-brown, nothing out of the...

    Olive Snails

The LFS sold me 3 olive snails to keep my sand "churned". They're very good at it. I't amazing too, as soon as the lights go out, they come to life and piles of sand start moving around. When I get up in the morning, it's looks like someone's been 4-wheeling in my tank. My question is, I have...

I'm fairly new to saltwater and I was pretty much farming the stuff. I got some red leg hermits and some astrea snails - they're mowing through the stuff like it's candy.

    Skimmer Hunt

Hi all, I'm trying to put together a 50g hex front flat back tank I "inherited". It's already up and running. Crabs ands snails seem pretty happy. I'm thinking I need to add a skimmer to the system. I have a sump (it's an old wet/dry - removed the bio balls), but the cabinent only has 20"...

    Icecap Ballast and/or 46" T5s

I recently built a new canopy for a 50g setup I "inherited". I "oops'd" on ordering parts to do the lighting. As a result, I have 1 Icecap 660 ballast and 4 46" T5s to unload. The T5s are 2 - AquaSun T5 Fluorescent & 2 - Super Actinic R, both by UV Lighting Co. Everything was used a grand...
