    yikes!

The male gouramis have sharply angled preanal fins, and the females have rounded pre-anal fins.

    Brand new 5.5G, What fish?

5.5g isn't really a lot of water. Small tanks are harder to keep, parameters can swing faster, leading to stress, illness and death. 5.5 is a perfect size for a shrimp tank, though. Maybe some yellow, cherry, crystal red shrimp? check out http://crustaforum.dedenet.de/board/index.phpfor people...

    Furry problem

I've seen that on all driftwood and also "bowl rock" that I've put into my tank. It goes away after a couple of weeks. I think it's some kind of fungus that grows on either the decaying lichen on the rock or maybe the outer layer of wood. Either way, I've had it in 3 or 4 tanks, fish tend to eat...

    Planted tank no substrate

Ok...keep two bottles, each a week apart on the recharge cycle. Arrange them like this: bottle -> one-way valve -> T <- one-way valve <- bottle This will allow you to keep a constant supply of CO2 in the tank. Also, pulling a bottle off won't cause a decrease in pressure, because of the one way...

Weird growth on silicone tubing and sealant in recently cycled tank

Hard to say what that is. My first thought was that it was just hard water deposits, but that wouldn't show up on the sealant. Maybe some silicate-loving algae? Just monitor for leaks, I guess. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Sick Oranda

Get a bigger tank, ASAP. Ok, goldfish (and orandas are goldfish (or carp, anyway)) need a lot of water, because they put out a lot of ammonia. Very dirty fish. How often do you do water changes? How much do you change? Do you test the water? strip or liquid test? What are the test results? You...

    instead of a python....

I went out and spent ~$70 on tubing (1", I think), filter caps and T-fittings. Then I put tubing into each of my 3 tanks, connected them together and through a piece of tubing with a screw-on fitting. Each tank has a valve on it. When I need to do a water change, I put the loose end...

    MTS

dkpate was extremely good when I got snails from her. I only paid for shipping, and the snails all survived, until my puffer got 'em :)

I'd sure like some, if you still have any. PM me?

Is my stand going to give?

I wouldn't trust it. Even if the metal isn't actually bowing (but was previously bent), you want even support over the entire bottom frame of the tank. Uneven distribution of weight WILL lead to leaks or even broken glass :/ Some folk will put a layer of foam-type insulation underneath the tank...

    lighting advice please :)

Ok, the numbers on the fixture are probably maximum recommended numbers. The numbers on your bulb are what you should pay attention to. 8000k means it's putting out light in a spectrum that plants crave, like brawndo. 17w means 17 watts of power is used to generate the light (or the load of...

Kuhli Loach - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Kuhli Loach (Pangio kuhlii) is a small eel-like freshwater fish belonging to the loach family (Cobitidae). There has been no documentation of Kuhli loaches breeding in aquaria.[citation needed] hmmm....

Whoa, your khuli loaches bred? wikipedia says there're no documented cases of that happening in aquaria! Can you post pics?

    Gourami Male Or Female??

Also, the pre-anal fin is rounder on the female and stops more abrubtly on the male.

    Tannin removal

Why are you so interested in removing the tannins from the wood in the first place? I can understand boiling once or twice to kill anything living in/on it, but tannins are great for your fish!

I would much rather have an irc based chat room. How much would that cost? I am willing to kick in a bit.

    URGENT-Hydor recalls 300 and 400 watt heaters

Yeah, that link doesn't go to a page with more info, and I did a search on the site for recall, no results. Of course, it looks like the site is in Italian, and I don't know the Italian word for recall.

Fresh Plants vs. Tubed Live Plants

I think the tubed plants are either semi-aquatic, or fully terrestrial, meaning they either need to be slowly covered in water (semi-aquatic), or will live for a while submerged, then die (terrestrial).

    Converting my tank.

yes, the container is from a Nutrafin CO2 Natural Plant System. I used champagne yeast (more co2 released, higher co2 tolerance), a lot of sugar, and a couple cups of water, I think. I tried a ladder, but it didn't work that well, too much CO2 to diffuse in such a short period of time. My method...

    Converting my tank.

It really depends on the type of driftwood and plants, but I find that fish like that kind of natural cover better than ceramic castles. Safer too. You want light that will penetrate to the depths of the tank. I have a 29g tank with the stock 14w bulb on top. Plant growth is slow, but it's not...

    Onion bulb

Bury it, just enough to keep it down, you don't want to totally cover it. Onions grow like crazy!

    Nothing. They are small fish.

    confused about ich

Ich looks like someone sprinkled salt on the fish. No joke. Very small distinct dots. If it looks fuzzy or cottony, probably a fungus. Be sure to remove the carbon filter from your filter when treating the water with medicine, since the filter will filter (duh) the medicine right out. I would...
