    LED lighting for reef tank?

I'm referring to reputable Manufacturers not these no name units from china. And yes you are correct about it just being an LED which in itself is a very simple device and is extremely easy to make a useable fixture with or without optics, the R&D I'm referring to is when a company goes to great...

    LED lighting for reef tank?

    LED lighting for reef tank?

As long as you can do the programming yourself and manage to keep all of the wiring nice and tidy then you're all set. BTW what LED's and optics are you going with? Maybe you start a thread in the DIY section for your led build.

    Canister?!?!?!?!?!?0__0

Sump, fuge and overflow is all you will need. Canisters are good but if you are going to use it on a saltwater tank make sure you clean it out very frequently.

You'll bleach everything in the tank if you go 100%. I have 4 Sol Blues on my 120 and they are incredible and extremely powerful so you will have to start very low and work your way up. I'm only running mine at 40% (tamk is 26"s deep) and find it to be plenty of light. On another note, Apogee...

    LED lighting for reef tank?

I'm using 4 AI's Sol Super Blue modules on my 120, they are very powerful. The only issue is it is very easy to over power the tank causing bleaching so great care must be taken when using them. And yes when implemented correctly the corals grow nicely. IMO, it's relatively easy to build an...

Overflows... GPH versus return pump etc

The one thing that is being overlooked here is that the sump should be designed to accommodate the excess water in the DT should your pump fail and the DT should have enough room to accept the water in the return chamber of your sump should the siphon fail. If everything is properly designed...

    Preparing salt water tank?

If you're able to get the rock now it will keep you from having to cure it in a separate tank later on. Look online, I bought base rock (which will become live) from Marco Rock, the prices I found to be pretty good. Marco Rocks The finest aquarium rock available, base rock, live rock, reef...

Sodium cyanide is often used to harvest tropical fish

It's just plain wrong, thats why I always try to buy tank bred specimens. Thanks for posting the topic, a lot of people are unaware of how these fish are harvested.

    Preparing salt water tank?

Get a piece of raw shrimp from your local fish store put it in a filter bag, drop it in the tank then sit back and wait for the tank to cycle. You'll know it cycled when Ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates are present. As said above now is a good time to put live rock in your tank.

Never said it caused everyone who uses it to be getting Cyano, in my case and others it was causing the problem. Could have been a bad batch, it was 400 gal of salt mix, 2 200 gal boxes of salt mix bought from the same place at the same time. I'm glad it was that because I like the ESV so much...
