finally taking the plunge.. 120g from cichlids to salt

ok so i used bio spira and even some seachem stability over the court of the first week. got the brown diatoms (indicative of tank cycling i think), which turned green all over the rocks and sand. now the water itself is greenish. i haven't done a WC yet, only a top off from evap. the tank is 18...

finally taking the plunge.. 120g from cichlids to salt

i ordered 50lbs of rock from reefrocks.net and 80lbs of reef sand. i talked to the owner first and he was very friendly. and they got my order out immediately. just got my tracking. do you know if 80lbs of sand will be enough for a 60x24x18 tank if i don't want a thick bed? also, i think...

finally taking the plunge.. 120g from cichlids to salt

thanks. i would just do one or the other as they are both yellow. i have a question about a protein skimmer. i said i wasn't going to run one, mainly because i am not going to be using a sump. but i came across a HOB, a coralife 65g. being that it's not rated for nearly as big a tank as i have...

finally taking the plunge.. 120g from cichlids to salt

been keeping large malawi cichlids and breeding a dozen or so species for a long while, but i just can't resist the urge to do salt anymore... so i'm switching my established 120g (60x24x18) malawi cichlid tank to salt, but there are some challenges, and a lot of questions. i'm definitely...

    aquaclear 110 questions

this has been a nightmare. so i got the 110, cleaned it, set it up, and went to put it on the tank.. well the tank is too close to the wall. the AQ's were quite a bit shallower. i can't move the tank without draining everything, nor do i want it any further out anyway. so i put the filter on the...

    aquaclear 110 questions

was supposed to get a fluval 405 canister yesterday, but the deal fell through. considering an aquaclear110 HOB. i've heard good things about these. i know they are rated for tanks up to 110g, and have an adjustable flow rate. would one be suficcient for my 75? FYI i have approx. 15...

can i add juvenile venustus/moorii to my 75?

i don't feel like i've overstocked at all. there are 18 fish. those same fish have been in a 50 for a long time before i upgraded. i've always overstocked and overfiltered to control aggression. if i had to though i'd remove the acei and/or labs.

can i add juvenile venustus/moorii to my 75?

i did the egg crate :) the cool part is, i can go get more if i want to add any smaller ones. this is kind of how i want to do my tank. i wanna have plenty of rock, and i want it to look natural. but i wanna be able to see the fish at almost all times (peacocks and haps don't really need...
