    daughter's tank

I just got back and I am beat tired after driving for four hours. Her plateys and danios, and the snails survived the trip. I gave her some decor I wasn't using. When I wake back up in a few hours I will post a pic of her tank.... Her half sister is four, kept trying to give me candy when I...

    skipped nitrite cycle

messed up that the ammonia has gone down no nitrite spike but nitrates are between 5-10ppm. Wondering if it is safe to add fish? Edit: ammonia is below .25, nitrite 0, nitrate 2.5 or so.

    A cycling question

+1 I may need to take some pics and make a "journal" when transporting my daughter's tank 5 hours. It seems like either moving (from place of residence) or otherwise transporting a tank and fish has been coming up a lot as of late. I didn't check your location, but with the weather getting...

    Bubbles Causing Cloudy Water?

not sure how new you are to fish keeping. I was having the same problem a while back. You might be having the dreaded mini-cycle aka "new tank syndrome" going on. The cloudiness looks like really super fine bubble or dust floating in your tank? White in color? Sort of looks like someone in your...

    Planted tank...

if you don't mind ugly you can check out the DIY lighting I made. Can crank out a little bit more light in your tanks.... I should buy a timer cause I am getting a little bit of algae.... something to watch out for when fert and lights go above the "came with the hood" lighting. Plants do...

    They're Dying ... Help!

Don't worry man, I think most of us rushed into things our first time out and it came to bite us in the rump. That's why I am here, had problems galore and found this site. It helped me immensely! Second time around I thought my tank was cycled but it wasn't. The third time was a charm (my...

    Planted tank...

Took me a while to get the hang of not killing the plants in my tank :) But it is just as thrilling as seeing your fish thrive. It's worth the headaches of starting out and getting the learning curve.

Do I need a "special" light?

yeah if you want coral you will need a heavy duty light..... I am a freshy so won;t be able to tell you a minimum requirement for coral lighting.

    Hello from Virginia

welcome aboard. Nice thing is also having the wide range of experience of people here. Some newbes have been like "I had the same thing happen last week this is what I did.". Sort of fun when it happens to yourself and you see it in other (that light bulb come on above the head).

    Tank question

wow.... I have a pot scrubby I had from another tank floating around in the new tank, and old filter/media. The thing just seems stalled.... but good news is that I did see a few snails so something might be starting to happen :) At least their poop will help.... wow not often you can say poop...

    Fish Tank in Iraq...Need help

Friend of mine I work with served over there in the Army. Don't matter what anyone thinks of the polotical reasons for being there don;t think you find a single person downing the folks over there. I'm at the age where I have friends and family that served in conflicts from Korea to our new...

    Tank question

coolies on your quick luck.... seems like my 30g in the bedroom is taking forever to cycle. It is driving me crazy! I know PSP semi-near me has the refrigerated bacteria stuff. Would also be a good excuse to stop by a friend of mine's place with a movie or two.... Hehehe always cool having two...

    Fish Tank in Iraq...Need help

Wow, good going man! Would actually like to see come pics! Well you can use some dechlor to take care of the tap water. Just wondering what all would be involved in customs and shipping to the military. Looks like so far so good with what you ordered. As for the shading the tank from the...

    Angels

Well reddish might be good enough. I don't think I have ever seen a cherry red horse in real life. Like I said I am not a bible thumper but thought the idea was funny and want to stick to the colors they have for the 4 horsemen ;).

    where the wild things are

Makes me wonder if all that "ecology stuff" (what we geezers used to call it) is working or if we are just moving more and more into their territory so they are returning the favor. Chipmunks, deer, rabbits, ground hogs (which I have seen) and the like all make good in the suburbs with the...

    where the wild things are

I can't really remember seeing chipmunks around before but I have caught one running around my place. Not much out front of my apartment. Neighbor had some tomatoes and peppers growing, the woods have grapes. A lot of the chemical plants and other manufacturing plants have closed up. We've been...

    Ammonia Kit

sometimes through the on-line sites you can get them a few bucks cheaper, but that might not apply for the shipping to Canada. Kinda planted tanks question

I have a banana plant that has a lily pad shooting up to the surface. I would think with the roots and all being below the water it should not dry out.... but that is just a guess.

    skyler1354

hehehe Skyler, the first step to enlightenment is realizing you know nothing ;) The guys and gals here are experts. Plus it is good cause you get various opinion. Each tank is slightly different and what works for one person might not work the same for another. So it's good that you can tweak...
