    Lighting solution?

Hmm, ok thanks. But... right now we're using some generic no-name light that came with the hood set of our tank and my husband wants to get something of better quality. But the shrimp wont come out and "socialize" unless I turn the light off. So I'm lost.

    Lighting solution?

Whats the best lighting for 2 clowns and a skunk cleaner shrimp? Reason I ask is because I was told that the cleaner shrimp likes "low" light..... Although I'm not sure if this is true. Can anyone confirm that? Anyway, what would be the best lighting setup to keep them ALL happy?

Corny Question: Will they fall in love again?

Wow you described whats been going on with our pair EXACTLY!! Same deal here... so I am guessing you are ok too. At first they were always together, but now they are each becoming a little more independent. I miss how they snuggled together when turned the lights off..... now, one of them...

    Clown question

This question is about clown poop. hehe :o Earlier today I noticed one of the clowns had a little bit of white stringy poop (it eventually disappeared), so I thought nothing of it. However...... a little while ago, I noticed the other clown has the same stringy white poop! Now, I know this...

    Our new additions!

No for the moment, there is no refuge or skimmer. We were told that for a 30 gallon with such a small bio load, it is pretty much optional stuff.... but yeah, I'm sure it would make a huge difference. Our nitrates have been high since day 1, so I am willing to bet it has to do with our tap...

    Our new additions!

Hey everyone! I posted here about a month ago asking about cycling with live rock.. and someone suggested we use a jumbo shrimp. We did that and it worked perfectly, we had a spike in ammonia, etc.. then things were back to normal. Soooo... about 2 weeks ago I went and got a pair of...

    Cycling without fish

Thanks! So far, it's going well... even our "hitchhikers" are excited about the shrimp. Got a nosy bristle worm hanging around it when I turn out the lights.... Frankly, it sort of creeps me out, but I figure this is something I will need to get used to. Marine life is so fascinating. Worms...

    Cycling without fish

Ok guys, the shrimp is now in! I put it in a small piece of nylon (old pantyhose haha) and wrapped it up tight and dropped it in. So here we go! Let the cycling begin. Wish me luck!!!! :D

    Cycling without fish

Finally, a good clear article. I'll definitely try the shrimp and let the bacteria on the LR do its thing. Thank you so much for clearing this up everyone!! I'll post an update with pics in a few weeks when the tank is ready for a clown or two. :)

    Cycling without fish

Ok so the live rock alone is not enough to cycle it.. since the live rock is not producing any ammonia? I hope I am understanding this right. Sorry for the obviously dumb questions. hehe

    Cycling without fish

Hi everybody. I first want to say that I did extensive reading on tank cycling withOUT fish and I'm still so confused. So I figured I'd come here and give it a shot. :D My question: Is there any way a new tank can be "cycled" without using either fish or ammonia? I read that I can just add...

    any alaskans??

Hi we're new to this site, from Anchorage as well. Just wanted to say hi to Alaskans and other people! We got a hold of a 29 gallon tank. Got some live rocks from The Reef at the Sears Mall, waiting for the cycle to settle. We are already enjoying our new hobby!
