Honestly I just use a paper towel or microfiber with water then dry it off with a dry clean microfiber. Works for me!

How long have you had the tank? Is everything brand new? If so your going to need to let it Cycle first. Definitely look into better lights. Some T5 bulbs would work great since you have a smaller tank.

I honestly like it a lot. Altho I do not under stand your second question? Hot to the touch you mean? The top part does get a little warm but not overwhelmingly hot. The bulbs however do get hot.
