I recently upgraded to a 125 gal tank. Transferred from a 70 gal. So far everything seems to be doing great, might do one more round of dr Tim's one and only for assurance.
My question is, a long time ago I saw a video of a beautiful tank with a group of tangs that schooled together. I want to...
So I'm moving to a bigger apartment. Its only one floor down so it's not a far move. There is way more room, and its the bottom floor so it's got a solid base. I have a 40 gal breeder with a 20 gal refuge. The tank is pretty established, been running for 4+ years.
My plan is to get a 90 - 120...
I had an explosion of aptasia in my tank. Tried everything, lemon juice, apt-x, joes juice. They all killed whichever single one I injected(even ordered medical syringes online with needle points because the ones that come with any product suck), but could not keep up with the swarm. I got a 40...
I have not heard of a silicone remover. The best results I have had is using very sharp razor blade, just the blade, held at an angle. I would use a box cutter knife to carefully slice where the silicone is in the corner over and over on both sides until the dividers are loose. Then just pry it...
Looks kinda like my old tank, if its the same thing its tiny snails. Mine looked like tiny white dots that came out at night and slowly went away when the lights came on. Im the am they were all over the glass, in the hundreds!
I tried to take a picture of them but their too small and quick to see. So I'm going to explain them as best possible.
I just noticed them today and their everywhere. The closest comparison is to a tadpole. They swim, not jump and crawl like most crustations I see. They swarm in caverns and...
De-nitrate does need a very slow flow to work. I had a separate DIY PVC canister with a slow pump, one that toped out at 60 gph. It worked well, but over time I took it off and my nitrates haven't changed.
I would recommend SeaChem Matrix. You could put it right in your canister, its made for...
I just built a simple drip feeder for calcium and alk. My question is, about how slow should the drip be, as slow as I can get it? Also should I constantly refill the syringes, or wait a week or longer before refilling once it runns out?
That has to be it. I dont know what else it could be. I ended up getting a float valve and working with gravity, not electricity. Ended up working really good. I'm going to post the build in the DIY forum.
I'm in the process of making an auto top off for my sump. Just got the float switch in the mail today.
I hooked it up to an extension cord like your supposed to. I tested it on my light with a cup of water. The light stays on, even when I take the switch out, and turn it upside down then...
My power outlet is located behind my tanks. I have two power strips coming from the outlet with all my timers and plugs hooked to them. They are a pain to reach to when I need to unplug cirtin things.
So I was thinking I could wire in toggle switches and position them in front of my tank for...
This is a pic from my buddy's tank. Hes got this algae growing out of control. This was actually a dried dead piece of coral, you cant even see it anymore. What would be the best way to get rid of the stuff?
Ammonia is usally a bi product of aenorobic bacteria. Look up the cycle of a tank it should explain it. But I would listen to MrX, he gives very good advice and knows what hes talking about.
Last move was done a few months ago. This is how its going to stay until I move, ha. Its A 40 gal breeder, drilled and plummed into two other 20 gal tanks. One 20 is the sump, the other a small zoathid only tank.
I would take the live rock out of your canister filter. The colorful pieces may have been colorful because of light. I have had good results with Seachem - Matrix. Its a large gravel like substance, very pourus as well. I would jeep all the rock in the tank. Seachem makes a few different types...
The aiptasia X is working beautifly. Ive taken out about 60% of what was in my tank before treatment. I aimed for the biggest and ones most in sight, so with only 60% of them gone I really notice a diffrence.
I would have more like 90%, which is my goal because 100% is impossible if you ask...
There it is, rock is in and things seem to be going good. Took the advice, waited a few days and went slow.
Thank you all for the help and putting up with some stupid and confusing questions. "When faced with the unknown, even the most experienced may sound nieve."
